Strange names?
Nov. 17th, 2011 09:02 pmI work at Build-a-Bear and I am always coming across spellings that make me go HUH????
See if you can guess these (they're all real, swear to God):
S'enyce
Uhmaiuh
Aahmia
Uhlaynuh
Aymburleigh
That's all I can think of right now, but I'll be back with more.

Date: 2011-11-18 02:39 am (UTC)ETA: They're horrible either way, but A LOT more forgivable if these were names little kids came up with for their stuffed animals.

Date: 2011-11-18 02:56 am (UTC)Teens can be really horrible naming them sometimes, I had these guys name a reindeer "Chubby Cox" and I told them to get out.
We also got a panda named "Nutsack" once.

These names are simply too atrocious for real life.

Date: 2011-11-18 07:43 am (UTC)I read up there that S'enyce is supposed to be Essence?! That's...not possible with those letters. Even if the S is really pronounced as an S, it would be...Ess-en-iss.
Crazy people.

Date: 2011-11-21 03:54 am (UTC)(my name is Alana, and one of my biggest pet peeves is when people pronounce it like Elena. The middle syllable is completely different, damnit!)

Date: 2011-11-30 04:45 am (UTC)I've seen people go either way on how to pronounce Alana, but the more common/proper pronunciation is like "uh-lah-nuh". I've definitely seen people who pronounce it like Elena, though.
That's how I pronounce my name, anyway, and people getting it wrong (and even arguing with me at times!) is a huge pet peeve of mine.

Date: 2011-12-01 01:26 am (UTC)I've learned to never argue people's names with them; I figure they should know better than me! I imagine it can be a huge pet peeve, so I try to pay attention to how that person pronounces their name.
