I've never met anyone called Anise, so because we wanted something that sounds traditional but isn't strictly popular, we called my daughter Anise Lenore.

I'm curious... anyone else met an Anise?

Never actually met her, but there was an Anise that worked for the company I worked for a few years back. The name stuck with me because it was pretty and original.:)

It's the first time I hear the name.
I'm pronouncing it Ah-NEEZ in my mind.
I like the combination you've picked out :)

It sounds like a common Indian name...

I've met a couple, not spelled that same way, and both adults.

I love her name! Lenore is one of my favorites. Never met an "Anise" before.

Out of curiosity, do you pronounce it like the spices anise and star anise (ANN-is) or some other way? Because I think it sounds so pretty pronounced like the spices!

I've seen boys with the name Anais, which is pronounced the same way. I love it if it's like the spice.

Lol it's a fine name, but it sounds weird to me personally because my mom's name is Janice, and her friend's daughter had trouble saying "J" sounds when she was a kid, so my mom was often called "Anice"
Other than that I think it's a pretty cool name, especially if it's pronounced like the spice!

Actually, being the Stargate SG-1 fangirl I am, I immediately thought of the Tok'ra scientist Anise (her host's name was Freya). While the character was a little bit annoying, the name is sweet. I tend to pronounce it in my head as Ah-NEICE, though, since that's how it was pronounced on the show. Either way, quite nice.

I had a neighbor named Anise, who is probably close to her early 40's now. She was born in Jamaica and I'm not sure if the name is more popular there.

i know/am friends with an anice. and a lot, A LOT, of people initially stumble over it and call her anus. i'm gonna have to recommend you don't name your kid anise.
