[identity profile] goldopals.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Hi, I am yet another spotlighter. This community seems to be very interesting. I have no plans to have children in the immediate future, but enjoy thinking about possible names.

I would love to give my future children biblical first names and then either my name or the father's name as middle names.

Girls
1. Hannah
2. Ruth
3. Esther
4. Jael
5. Chloe
6. Deborah (pronounced Debra, named after an old friend)
7. Abigail
8. Bethany
9. Anna
10. Candace
11. Claudia
12. Diana
13. Damaris (I like this one, but the poor girl would probably get teased)
14. Elisha
15. Leah
16. Lois
17. Joy
18. Susanna
19. Joanna
20. Miriam
21. Naomi
22. Rachel

I really like Lois, Anna, and Abigail, and none of the other names are bad.

I don't like Jael, though, because it sounds like 'jail' to me. Then again, if you pronounce it like 'Jah-ELL,' you won't have that problem :).

You know what's funny? Joy is a name that I used to always hate, because it was so 70s. You know, half the kids born in the 70s seem to have had the middle name Joy. Fiona Joy, Amy Joy, Kylie Joy etc.

Now I really, really like it. I think I think 'joyful' when I hear it these days.

Haha. Funny. I actually know people with those names whose middle names are Joy!

1. Hannah - Always been a favorite of mine, but hubby hates it. :-/

Naomi is a name I like but only pronounced "Nay-omi". If I was a Naomi and had people calling me "Nye-omi" I'd want to smack them!

welcome

It's funny, but actually Deborah was the first spelling I knew for the name, and it was years before I saw the name Debra.

I like:
Chloe (I so blame Smallville for this)
Claudia (I so blame The Baby-Sitters Club for this)
Leah
Rachel
Rebekah (I have a friend named this)

Most of the rest of the names I'm pretty neutral on (including mine and my mom's names which are also on this list :)).

LOVE Jael. I'd even say that you can get creative with the spelling to modernize it and make it more attractive (Jayelle, Jaelle...). It's funny because I think it's so pretty, but when you pronounce it as it is actually pronounced in Hebrew (Ha-el) I think it loses its beauty.

My best friend is named Amaris and she's never gotten teased for it. Growing up, people have actually really liked it for its uniqueness....so maybe adding a D in front of it won't change that effect too much ;) I personally love Damaris.

If you're gonna name a boy Elisha, you may as well just name him Elijah instead, haha. I just think it sounds better, and people will probably end up calling him Elijah anyway because it's easier to say.
