[identity profile] cinderlily.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I'm 38 weeks (about 90% I'm in the beginnings of labor actually, or the most insistent Braxton Hicks of ALL TIME) with my first baby and I'm just now realizing how freaking intimidated I am by naming this kid. Our girl name is essentially set, for my grandmother and his grandmother, but I honestly think I'm having a boy and here is where the problem is. Boy names scare me!

Okay, not scare me? But just... I don't know. Intimidate me. I work at a preschool so I know the unfortunate amount of trendy boy names (no offense to most people but -aden names have officially broken my brain). I want my kid to have a traditional name but not boring and something that can grow up with the child.

We've gotten it down to : Henry, Andrew and (possibly?) Luke. The middle name is a whole new ball game as it has to be a W for his grandfather Wayne and um. Yeah, there are what? Nine W names? So frustrating. Maybe West? Or Wade. Or William (but Henry William is too close to Hank Williams for my comfort). Willam? Walker?

To summarize: I might be having a bit of a meltdown over naming a human being right now. Help?

I love Andrew but if the middle name has to begin with a W I'd avoid it. I love Luke (Lucas) too. Henry always struck me as a boring name. It's not bad and I don't dislike it, but it's very beige to me. I like Walker as a middle name. Here are some W names.
Walter
Warren
Wesley/Westley
Wilson
Wilbur
Winston
Woodrow (other Wood- names)
Wyatt.

What about Wyatt or Wesley? Don't worry, mama, he won't be nameless forever! Andrew William sounds really nice.

Honestly I like all your boy names, you're on the right track :) I think you'll know it when you see him/her. Try to relax and rest while you can! Good luck!

I think Walker is a good one. It's different, but not out there.

There's Warwick, Washington, Wesley, Weston, Wickham, maybe Winter, if he's going to be born in winter...

I like Henry and Andrew! William would sound nice with either, I think.

Walker reminds me too much of George W. Bush personally...but I've always loved the name William.

Walter? We are also finding it difficult to find a boy name. I'm 28 weeks.

Henry Wallace or Henry West sound really nice and cool at the same time.
My grandfather was William Henry.

Luke Walker makes me think of Star Wars. I like Wallace and pretty much all the names you've mentioned other than Wade. I bet you'll see him and know.

Congrats on the impending baby! Sorry you're feeling anxious about the name, but I'm sure whatever you choose will fit your baby perfectly. My favorite of your first name options is Henry, but you can't go wrong with any of them, really! Here are some of my favorite W names:

William (I don't think most people connect Hank to Henry anyway, so you're in the clear!)
Wesley (sounds best with Andrew)
Walker
Whitney (I think in the middle it can work for a boy!)

Other ideas:

Wade
Wallace/Wallis
Walter
Ward
Warner
Warren
Watson
Webster
Westley
Weston
Wilbur
Wilfred
Wilhelm (maybe this would help shoo away your association with Hank Williams?)
Willis
Willoughby (guilty pleasure :3)
Wilmer
Wilson (I also like this as an alternative to William)
Wilton
Windsor
Winston
Wisdom (interesting virtue name if you're up for it!)
Wolf
Wolfram
Wolfgang
Wright
Wulfric
Wyatt
Wyn/Wynn/Wynne

Good luck! And just curious, what's your choice for a girl? :)

Oooh, Henry is my favourite name. But finding a name with W to go with it is hard. I think I like Winston or Walker the best.

Ooh, I'm not too good with boy names, to be honest. I work in a preschool as well and at Build-a-Bear and I am totally with you with the whole -aden name trend :/

Good luck and congratulations!

I would go with Luke. It sounds cooler than Henry, and no one will be shortening it like they would Andrew (Drew, or Andy). If you named him Andrew some people with a "sense of humor" might call him Andy Griffith. o.O

welcome

How about Luke Warner? I think it's pretty cute, I mean, it isn't like other names that seems to be overbearing... and what are your choices for the girls' names?(just got curious)

Boys' names have always been incredibly difficult for me, too. I think that's why I made all my toys female as a child. xD

Wesley is actually my favorite male "W" name, and I adore Luke (which is my nephew's name) and Henry. I think Andrew might be difficult with a "W" middle name? But that's totally up to your own tastes. (I had no idea "aden" had become such a trend?!) Most of all - good luck and congratulations!

In the US, at least, the -aden/-ayden trend is gigantic. Some names and rankings from the SSA list:

Boys:

4 - Jayden
9 - Aiden
40 - Brayden
79 - Ayden
91 - Jayden
94 - Aidan
96 - Hayden
106 - Kaden
119 - Caden
123 - Kayden
151 - Cayden
166 - Kaiden
174 - Jaiden
207 - Braden
265 - Caiden
288 - Aden
332 - Adan
337 - Braydon
338 - Zayden
409 - Braeden
468 - Braiden
493 - Jaydon
556 - Aaden
573 - Jadon
618 - Zaiden
636 - Aydan
640 - Raiden
664 - Aydin
693 - Kaeden
703 - Aidyn
708 - Jaeden
734 - Bradyn
873 - Jaidyn
884 - Aedan
894 - Jadyn
898 - Kadyn
903 - Jaydin
929 - Rayden
945 - Haiden
985 - Kadin
999 - Jaydan

And let's not forget the girls:

162 - Hayden
212 - Jayden
227 - Cadence (it contains the principle sound so I'm including it)
258 - Kaydence
438 - Kadence
480 - Kayden
635 - Jadyn
702 - Jaiden
762 - Jaden
788 - Jaidyn
913 - Caydence

And I am positive that I must have missed some, because I was just quickly going through that list. The worst part? Maybe 5% of those names are actually legit names. Okay, sorry to derail the comments! :3

My vote is for Henry, but Luke is nice as well.
I've known too many Andrews for me to enjoy it.

Ideas...

I like William. But you're right about Henry William not being so lovely. :(
I've only known three Wades in my life, but all three were obesely overweight so I can't bring myself to think of it as a healthy name for a child. (Crazy, but true.)

Some W ideas...
Winslow
Wilson
Wills (This was Oscar Wilde's middle name.)
Willoughby
Westley / Wesley
Weston (of course you do have to deal with the gun association.)
Waverly
Wayland
Wynn
Warrick / Warwick
Whitney
Wiley
Winston (Churchill, anyone?)
Wyatt
Wystan

I agree with the Wade thing. Both the ones that I've known have been overweight and obnoxious. My subconscious is all "stay awaaaaay!!"

To the OP, Andrew Wyatt sounds like a good one, although he'll probably want to shorten it later in life. I have a friend who named her son Henry and he is absolutely adorable. Henry is a great name, just stay away from a middle name that ends in 'y'. :)
