[identity profile] thunderofsins.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
My husband and I having a running list of "future baby names" and he'd like to name a child after his aunt (who I love and would love to name a baby after), but we're coming up with nothing.

Her name is Theresa, she goes by Terri. We're not too keen on actually using Terri and cannot use Theresa (complicated family history with the name). He can't remember her middle name, I'm going to ask her to see if that will be a possibility, but in the meantime thats all we have to work with.

So, any suggestions? Boy or girl. Spin-offs of the name are welcome.

AND:

We like the names Ruth and Joseph for middle names (and only middle names), its the firt names for these that we're not so set on.

What first names do you like with those middle names? They are both biblical names so a biblical first name is okay as long as its not too "much" (we're Christians but don't want a "omg look at the crazy religious nuts" kind of name!), we like them because they are family names. We like less kre8ive names, although we do like unusual names as well as classics.

That's exactly what I was going to suggest...Resa or Reese. I LOVE the name Reese and I'm considering that for a middle name. :o)

I like Tessa! And I was going to suggest what the first person did, Risa (girl) or Reese (boy).

You could look for names that have a similar meaning to Theresa.
Sometimes that is what Jewish people do when they are naming their child after a deceased grandparent with a more archaic name. For example, the name "Frieda" means "joy" but so does "Aliza" or "Thalia".

according to behindthename.com:
From the Spanish and Portuguese name Teresa. The meaning is uncertain, but it could be derived from Greek θερος (theros) "summer", from Greek θεριζω (therizo) "to harvest", or from the name of the Greek island of Thera (the main island of Santorini). A famous bearer was Maria Theresa, an Austrian Habsburg queen of the 18th century. She inherited the domains of her father, Charles VI, the Holy Roman Emperor, which began the War of the Austrian Succession.

Or you could just use a name that starts with the letter T. There are lots of good ones out there! :)

My grandmother's name was also Theresa and she was primarily called Tess. The middle name given to me was Tess. I love it as a variation of Theresa.

Or Therese (French) - pronounced Ter-ez? Personally I think it's very pretty, but I live in England so perhaps she might face pronunciation problems if you live in the US? (And I'm not bashing American pronunciation as I am American myself!)

i know in judaism, its tradition to name a child after the first letter of another family members name, (my so's sister is named hailey, which is H after her grandfather harold. her son is jacob, after J for grandmother jenny)
so if you wanted to use something along those lines, you could use anything starting with T. in theory.
