Nov. 8th, 2011 06:55 pmHello! It's so nice to find an active baby names group. I have no intention on having kids for another ten years or so but I love names and I love hearing about what names other people like.
I don't really keep a top ten list of names or anything - I like to come up with names that I would name my children if I were having them right now. I like long names, so this basically adds up to a top ten list anyway! Here are my current names. I usually have two for girls and two for boys.
For girls:
Adelaide Loralei Josephine Hope
Viviana Beatrix Elodie Joy
For boys:
Caius Oakley Zaide Reason
Atticus Finnley Wilder Truth
What do you guys think? I look forward to finding out what everyone else's favourite names are. :)

Date: 2011-11-09 02:39 am (UTC)I don't know if I like very long names like these, but out of these four, Atticus Finnley Wilder Truth definitely has the best ring to it, in my opinion

Date: 2011-11-09 02:49 am (UTC)Personally, I'm okay with two middle names, but three gets to be a bit much. Still, to each their own.

Date: 2011-11-09 03:10 am (UTC)I like Vivian, not Viviana, Finley not Finnley & Lorelei, not Loralei (is Loralei an accepted sp?).

Date: 2011-11-09 06:57 am (UTC)By names:
1. How do you pronounce the first one? Loralei is fun to say but the little one will need help with the spelling a bit because I have never actually met a real Loralei... Oh, and if this is a sequence for one kid, I think Josephine after Loralei doesn't fit well.
2. Viviana Beatrix sounds very regal and funky (and I mean that in the best way) to me, like a Lady of Neon thing. I can't pronounce...wait yes I can. Elodie like Melody, right? The first three flow nicely together if this is a sequence.
3. Never heard Caius before but I like it and I've only heard Oakley as a last name. Zaide seems abrupt so I would think it would be best as the middle or last of the name sequence before the last name.
4. Again, never heard Atticus but I like it as well and Finnley has been pegged again as a last name to me. Wilder is a bit tricky: I think of it as a last name but can see it as a middle name, just not a first.
Ah, my name choice? Well, there are two I absolutely want to name my future children and a couple others I could live without a little less but I have left the middle name pretty much open for when the time comes and when I have a partner to discuss with.
The two I want are: Elijah so I can call him Lige (li-j or hard g like "My Liege" or "Leg-ion") and Cori for a girl (originally considered Cordelia but I would be fine with just Cori).
The rest I could (maybe) bypass are:
Heath (considered Heathcliff but then he might be called Cliff...)
Lawton (which my mother has heard as a last name :) )
Rebecca Veeta Jean with maybe the nickname of Bec (I like the flow of the three names together)
I wouldn't mind hearing an opinion on my choices. I'm about to read the rest of the comments.

Date: 2011-11-09 06:40 pm (UTC)1. Adelaide is pronounces as it's spelled pretty much - the word add, then the sound elle, then the word aid if that helps.
2. Elodie is pronounced like Melody without the M but the names are unrelated. Elodie is a French name meaning "wealth and riches" and Melody is an English name meaning "true song".
4. I definitely wouldn't use Wilder as a first name but I LOVE it as a middle name. I've never heard it or Finnley as a last name, but many popular names are surnames, such as Parker and Jackson.
The name Lawton is really neat. I've never heard of it before. I've never heard of Veeta either, but I really like it. I'd likely spell it Vita though.

4. True
I looked Lawton up because I wanted an L name. If I had my way, I would have twin boys with one named Heath and the other Lawton but I will live if I don't.
Same with Veeta. I looked it up but I don't remember what it means. There are many spellings of it and I think spell check liked Vita and Veta instead of Veeta.
Spell check did not like a lot of the names... :)

Date: 2011-11-09 09:53 am (UTC)Personally, I've loved the name Adelaide forever, but since I LIVE in Adelaide, it'll be a bit weird to call a girl that :-/

Date: 2011-11-09 06:43 pm (UTC)The thing about middle names is they very rarely go on forms. I think the only forms my middle names have ever gone on are forms my mother had to fill out for me herself (so it's her own darn fault my name is long-ish) such as birth certificate and SIN card...maybe elementary school. The only form I've ever put my middle name on was for university. I'm not saying my kids will definitely have three middle names, that's just what I'm feeling right now. I've got ten years to change my mind.

Date: 2011-11-09 09:13 pm (UTC)Really, I don't mind original/classic/funny/etc. names and my first name used to be pretty unusual where I live... but all that was okay. The only thing that I did mind was having four names /=

Date: 2011-11-09 07:40 pm (UTC)For the boys, I like Atticus, I've always liked it, but I'm not a huge fan of Caius. There's not a "reason" I'm not fond of it, it's just not my style.
