[identity profile] katsuno-hitomi.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
drawn to this community by the spotlight. Big suprise.

Seriously though, I love names. I love them in all sorts of combinations and languages. I've always loved names, and I probably always will.

Just to prove how much of a nerd I am, I'm planning on naming a future daughter Lúthien Sakura. Internet cookies to anyone who gets what the first name is referencing (the middle name is kind of obvious).

*squee* I've always wanted to name a kid something from Tolkien too! But between being short, easily pronounceable, and not immediately obvious, I get Elanor. Which is a very nice name :D

Not to offend you, but are you absolutely sure, you want to name your daughter that? I mean, sure, to you it sounds cool now, but you'll make your daughter out to be quite the target amongst bullies. :/

I have to agree. While it's a pretty name and I appreciate the reference, that's going to make life very hard for your daughter from day one.

Tbh, I've known folks with far stranger names than that. I wouldn't think it's an automatic target for bullying.

10 years ago I had no knowledge of Lord of the Rings at all, and wouldn't have recognized Luthien. Now, I totally geek out when I meet people with Tolkien names. :)

As someone who went to university with a Galadriel, my advice would be don't, just don't. Or at least give the kid a more 'normal' middle name.

ETA most fantasy novel names really don't work in the real world but something like Elanor would be just as nerdy and yet still a lot more workable IMO.

Luthien, YES. I've always loved the story and loved the name. I don't know if I'll name a child that, but I want to name SOMETHING Luthien lol I thought Luthien Grace is pretty. And it's not really that much weirder than some of the made-up or unusual names I've heard, isn't long or hard to spell or pronounce. Plus, it's not as well known, unlike Arwen or Galadriel that most people get immediately.

Question though, would you pronounce it Luh-thee-in or Loo-thee-in?
