Names, names, and more names!
Nov. 7th, 2011 12:00 pmHello, there! I saw this community on Spotlight and immediately joined, because names are awesome.
My love of names started when I was 10 and really grew a year later. When I was 10, my friend brought a baby name book to school and we had lots of fun looking up our names and those of our classmates. At 11, we had a school project where we read a book called Our Sixth Grade Sugar Babies and we had sugar babies. My best friend found a baby name book from the 1940s and we went to town.
I don't remember what I picked out for a boy's name, but I had two girls' names picked out: Titania Virginia and Demetria Day. I chose the latter for my sugar baby's name!
Then in my senior year of high school, I had another sugar baby project in my child development class. At that time, I was going through a phase where I liked two middles names so my sugar baby was named Patrick Adam Christopher.
After that, I began getting into writing stories and roleplaying so I really had fun with names. I always made sure that the name meaning fit with my characters' personalities.
My sister had her first baby two years ago and we have fun coming up with names for a boy or girl. They liked the name Tristan Allan for a boy and I really liked Olivia Grace for a girl. They found out they were having a girl and decided on the name Vera Dei. Vera was our great-grandmother's name and while the name means "faith", they see it as being a derivative of the word veritas which means "truth". Dei means "of God" so her name means "truth of God".
Right now, I'm pretty stuck on the names Eleanor, Violet, Jane, Alice, and Ava. I really like Eleanor Violet and Ava Jane.
I just know when it comes time to find names for my own children, I'm going to have a field day! :D
We don't have many "different" names in my family, but looking at names of my relatives who lived last century, I've really liked LaVera, Ruby, Alice, and Mae.
I'm so excited to have found this community and can't wait to see lots of posts on names!
