My first child is due on New Year's.

As a boy, he'd be named "Gabriel Logan".

As a girl, she'd be named either "Alexandria Rose" or "Magdelene Rose".

Of course, it's a girl, since we weren't sure on a girl's name yet.

So... what's everyone's input? Which would be better?

For reference, I've been keeping a journal about her coming into the world, which can be viewed at  womb_leech

My vote is for Alexandria Rose. Simply because 'Alexandria' can be a million and one nicknames, if your child doesn't end up caring for the full name. It's long (one of my favourite names, but it's still long) and everyone will be tempted to shorten it in conversation.

With Magdelene, everyone is going to go with 'Maggie' as an automtic. With Alexandria you have Ali/Aly, Alex, Sandy, even Ria. You've just got more wiggle room.

And even if you're the kind of person who says 'Well, no one will shorten my child's name if I ask them not to'... it won't happen ;)

PS Gabriel Logan? LOVE IT.

I would actually use Lena as a nn for Magdalene. I prefer it to any nn for Alexandria.

I think Alexandria Rose is very pretty, but Magdalene Rose is a bit more "rare" and uncommon so I like that. But, I still think Alexandria Rose sounds better with your other pick for a boy--Gabriel Logan. So my vote goes with Alexandria Rose.

Alexandria is a beautiful name, but...I think Magdalene Rose is equally beautiful and easier to speak out loud. Besides, she doesn't automatically have to go by Maggie. I met a girl named Magda once and fell in love with the name; I think Magda would be a great nickname for Magdelene. But that's just my two cents. :)
