My cousin had her baby on Tuesday, a little boy named Nathan Richard.  I don't love the name, but it isn't too trendy (to me anyways) and it is distinctly masculine, which I can appreciate.

My friend was telling me about some show she was watching (called Pregnant in Heels or something similar) about a woman who works as a "pregnancy concierge" meaning she panders to rich people who have problems with their unborn children.  The first couple were pregnant but hated kids (she took them to a series of experts and psychologists and really they were just scared) and they named their son Fox.  The second couple was pregnant with their third and didn't know what to name him, so they went through a series of panels of marketing experts and baby name experts and philosophers etc... (a bit much if you ask me!) and they ended up naming their son Bowen.  I think their other kids were Ella or Emma and Jake or Luke, something in that vein.

It's growing on me! But I just watched all of Heroes and all I think of is Nathan Petrelli, the man who can fly.

Bowen wasn't even on the list of anything anyone came up with. I think the "experts" selected Asher, Bodie, Tucker and Miles....

We have a Bowen at Playcentre. Sibset: Corban, Bowen, Saskia.

I like Corban and Saskia a lot actually. Bowan really sticks out! Saskia I think of as Polish or Russian, and Corban strikes me as Australian (I only know one Corban and that's where he's from) and Bowen just sounds made-up next to them!

I like Nathan Richard! I'm not a huge fan of Richard as a first name, but I definitely like it paired with Nathan, and as a middle name.

Yeah, that show is Pregnant in Heels. It's um...interesting. To be honest, I'm not completely sure what the point of it is. But yeah, they tend to be a bit over the top. As for Bowen...well, Nick from Power Rangers Mystic Force was really named Bowen, and I thought that was a made up name at the time. Alas, the name Bowen will always make me think of PRMF.

Also, why couldn't the parents have kept with the nice, relatively normal names? Bowen isn't bad per se, but having a sister named Emma and a brother named Luke (for example), well...he's definitely the odd one out. Though I guess the whole "my parents consulted a panel of experts to name ME" might trump most name explanations...

Bowen makes me think of Bow and Arrow, and Bowflex. I just can't get behind it! Especially with Emma and Luke, or Ella and Jake or whatever.
