Top 10 baby names in Brazil in 2010
Sep. 5th, 2011 05:19 pmI read a piece on a local news site about the top 10 baby names in Brazil. This list is definitely not official, it was taken from Brazil's babycenter website, so it reflects more the name trends in big cities and excludes the poor quite a bit. Still, I found it interesting and decided to post it here:
Boys:
1. Gabriel
2. Davi
3. Miguel
4. Arthur
5. Matheus
6. Lucas
7. Guilherme
8. Pedro
9. Gustavo
10. Felipe
Girls:
1. Júlia
2. Sophia
3. Isabella
4. Maria Eduarda
5. Giovanna
6. Beatriz
7. Manuela
8. Rafaela
9. Mariana
10. Gabriela
Double names are counted separately, so Maria Eduarda does not count for Maria or Eduarda (incredibly common names in my neighborhood, I know at least three). different spellings count as only one name, though (like Sofia and Sophia). The spelling that shows up in the list is thew most common one.
The list (top 100 names) can be found here. Babycenter's U.S. list for 2010 is here.

Date: 2011-09-06 05:53 pm (UTC)I know it was a very uncommon name when I was a kid, but in the past decade I've met several (both Eduarda and Maria Eduarda). My mom works at a daycare and it's a rather commn name there, along with Giovanna and Gabriela.
Also, if the two parts of double names were counted, Maria and Ana would be Brazil's most popular names every year.
