My older brother and his wife are expecting a baby girl and having a fierce debate over names. Sort of. They've agreed they like Magla as a girl's first name. They just can't figure out a middle name, other than not wanting to replicate exactly any of the Maglas in our family tree (Magla Zorica, Magla Vetara, and Magla Basiya). The easy way around that is to pull from my sister in law's more mixed European heritage and not just using Serbian names, but it's still sort of stumping them.

Thoughts and suggestions, anyone? Like/dislike Magla as a name? Is four of one first name in a family tree too much, in your opinion? They're still in the planning stage, so it's sort of a subject of family dicussion.

Four is too many. I would go with a different name altogether than be the fourth one in the same family with the same name.

I think it depends on how close in the family tree the Magla's are...

I am not a huge fan of Magla, but it's not horrible. I also do think it is too much of a name in a family tree, as I am not a fan of naming after people, but if it's a name they do both love I think that always takes precedent.

Magla is NMS but since it's a family name, I don't *hate* it. However, depending on how far apart all of the 4 Maglas are, I'd be worried it's too much. I am drawn to Zorica though, FWIW.

I think it depends on what the name means to them. Is it a tradition to name the first born girl Magla? Is one of the other Magla's extremely important to them and they are honoring her with the namesake? I know a family that has about 2 or 3 dozen (living) John's, most of them go by their middle name from birth, but it's definitely family tradition to name a son (usually the first born) John.

As far as liking or disliking Magla, it's culturally different to me so it's really NMS, but going by the other names with the middle names, it's not bad.

I think it doesn't matter if there is anyone else in the family tree with the name Magla. I did extensive research on my family tree, and there were a lot of names that were repeated numerous times each generation, but they were such distant relatives that their paths never crossed.
