Calling all suggestions!
Sep. 1st, 2011 07:48 pmI have always loved the name Lydia. It's a family name, and I've liked every Lydia I've ever known.
Unfortunately, my husband (along with others I've noticed in this community) thinks it sounds too much like chlamydia.
I told him I always thought it would be sweet to have a daughter to call Liddy Bug. He actually LOVES that nickname. He even started to soften and be okay with Lydia, simply for the sake of that sweet nickname. Unfortunately, he has forever ruined it for me. Humph.
Can anyone suggest other first names that Liddy could be a nickname for?

I am sad it was ruined for you... I wouldn't let such a childish thing ruin my favorite names.

I think it's ABSURD that people make that correlation too! However, just a couple days ago, I saw a girl mention Lydia in this community and, sure enough, more than one person said "sorry, all I hear is chlamydia."
Grrrr!

Date: 2011-09-02 12:11 pm (UTC)Alternatives to Lydia...Lia paired with a D middle/second name? Lia Danielle or something? Delilah could kinda work, but it'd be a bit of a stretch...
Or Leticia/Lettice, Lettie Bug is equally adorable and very similar sounding to Liddy Bug. :) Charlotte could be Lottie Bug...I like Lettie Bug better, though.

Date: 2011-09-05 01:06 pm (UTC)I feel like I should elaborate - it didn't ruin the name itself for me. I still find it elegant and classic.
What is ruined is the chance that I would ever name my own daughter that, because I would always remember, in the back of my mind, that her father thinks it sounds like a sexually transmitted disease.
Anyway, it's still a favorite name for me! Please name a daughter that and let me live vicariously. =)
