I have always loved the name Lydia. It's a family name, and I've liked every Lydia I've ever known.

Unfortunately, my husband (along with others I've noticed in this community) thinks it sounds too much like chlamydia.

I told him I always thought it would be sweet to have a daughter to call Liddy Bug. He actually LOVES that nickname. He even started to soften and be okay with Lydia, simply for the sake of that sweet nickname. Unfortunately, he has forever ruined it for me. Humph.

Can anyone suggest other first names that Liddy could be a nickname for?

Liddy Dole uses it as a nickname for Elizabeth.

Lydia is still lovely, though.

Chlamydia?? Seriously, what is wrong with people? I never, ever have thought of that when hearing the name Lydia. I know someone who named her daughter that last year, in fact, and I think it sounds beautiful.

I knew I wasn't the only one!!!

I think people have issues... I mean come on now... *face palm*

I need my Bono facepalm icon back.

Seriously though I am kind of outraged at this xD I must be on my period.

Same here. Never thought of it until I read it somewhere in this community.

My face at the Lydia/Chlamydia thing was something like: o.o

People are too creative.

I am sad it was ruined for you... I wouldn't let such a childish thing ruin my favorite names.

I still worry for the future of humanity when GROWN ADULTS do stuff like that.

I love the nn Liddy Bug too btw!

I'd say poo on the husband and use it anyway. He likes the nickname! Lydia is a beautiful name.

I don't know if you are dead set on Liddy as a nn, but my best friend in middle and high school's name was Lindy and I always called her Lindybug.. Similar.

I think it could actually be used as a nickname for Olivia. Olivia -> Livvy -> Liddy. That was the first thought that popped into my head. Maybe also Elodie? Or Adelaide?

They use just Liddy on 30 Rock for Jack Donaghy's daughter. I think Liddy is an absolutely adorable nickname by the way.

There's a Russian name called 'Lida' that could work. Other ideas: Lydie or Lydon, perhaps.

Aw, Liddy Bug is so sweet!

Alternatives to Lydia...Lia paired with a D middle/second name? Lia Danielle or something? Delilah could kinda work, but it'd be a bit of a stretch...

Or Leticia/Lettice, Lettie Bug is equally adorable and very similar sounding to Liddy Bug. :) Charlotte could be Lottie Bug...I like Lettie Bug better, though.

Why not just name the girl Liddy? Since you were planning on calling her Liddy anyway why does she have to have a longer name.
