Well I don't automatically think fauna or aunt flo, but I'm French so my references are different I guess...I love Florence, my cousin named her kid that. I also like Florie but Flora is just okay for me.
I like the name Flora, but dislike Florence, and I would not use the nickname Flo. Maybe Floey (which, okay, looks really weird spelled out), or like someone else said above, Florie. And you know, Flora is not that long of a name so maybe it doesn't need a nickname.
I really like Flora, but I don't like Flo at all. Yes, Aunt Flo and the weird Progressive lady come to mind, but mostly I just don't like the sound and Flora is short and pretty on its own.
I actually strangely enough like Florence. Flo is a no go though (I didn't intend for that to all rhyme) for me, as I think of the Progressive Lady and also my period.
Flora is pretty; don't automatically think of Aunt Flo when I hear the nickname. This is probably because my grandmother's name is Florence and her vanity license plate said "Flo."
