What do you think of Olivia, with the nickname Olive?

This isn't something i'm planning to name a child; it's just an idea i thought of because i've seen the name of David Tennant and Georgia Moffett's daughter given as both Olivia and Olive.

Well right now I'm in a production of Twelfth Night and people call the actress who plays Olivia "Olive", so I like it :) It never would've occurred to me before, but now that I've heard it, I like it.

I think Olivia is kind of ugly, but I love Olive.

that's funny, because I've been thinking I like the name Olivia lately..but, not Olive and wondering if it may be cause for a kid to get made fun of

wanted to add that I like Liv or Livvie as a nickname (not sure about that spelling though)

Love it and totally want it for my next baby girl, if it happens! I first got the idea from Olivia's character from the show Fringe.

I suppose you could, and it wouldn't be super weird, but I personally think of them as separate names. In the same way, I wouldn't use Julie as a nickname for Julia. (Also, I just like Julie and Olive better than Julia/Olivia anyway).

this. but also I think of Olive as a male name, for the most part.

... Olive is in no way a masculine name.

I think of it as more masculine because I've heard it as a nickname for Oliver...

I love both names, and it wouldn't be strange, but I personally wouldn't use one as a nickname for the other.

For the kid's sake, I'm hoping it's actually Olivia, so it doesn't sound lke she's the tenant in an olive.

I love Olivia but I don't care much for Olive. I see them as two different names, like someone else mentioned. But I think it could certainly work.

I love Olivia and really wish it wasn't getting so popular! I like Liv for a nickname, not so much Olive. Didn't Isla Fischer name her baby Olive? It would be pretty if it wasn't immediately associated with the ...fruit? What is an olive anyway? haha

I don't care for most food names (I have a theory...an inappropriate theory...but bottom line, avoid girls named after food lol). I prefer Olivia with the Liv, Livy, etc nn. Olivia as a whole is nms, but I must admit, I would happily have tens baby LOL.

Love it! But it's so trendy/popular now-a-days, so I wouldn't use it. I think I would use Olive or Liv as a nn.

I like Olivia but I don't like Olive.

They are two separate, entire names unto themselves. It's not necessary, because Olive is gorgeous (and in fact, I think much nicer than Olivia) on its own.

Love Olivia, hate Olive. Olivia was on my list with the nn Liv, but it has become too popular. Olives are a food (which I love) and I think it's a ridiculous name even as a nn. I knew a little girl named Olive and although it did suit her, I still can't bring myself to like it.
