My husband and I are expecting our first child in mid-October ... complete surprise since we were not planning or trying at all - but such is life. We have finally started getting everything in order and we are very excited.

We are not finding out if the baby is a boy or a girl in advance (much to the chagrin of our family members - you would think they would want a surprise too!) We also have decided not to let them in on the naming beforehand. (of course this is driving them all crazy!)

Josh and I have come up with three names for both boys and girl. Now our last name is Mulder (yes. like the X-Files - so we have been hearing lots of Scully and Fox suggestions ... sigh - haha)

Our Names:
Joshua Francis
Lauren Marie

Boy Names:
Benjamin Archer
Axel Harrison
Reed Emerson

Girl Names:
Nora Brennan (EDIT: Brennan is Josh's mothers maiden name.)
Jo Helena Rose (EDIT: Jo would be after my grandmother and uncle who both passed away when I was very young.)
Suzanna Charley

Now these aren't in any order of favorites ... it really depends on what we think when we see the munchkin. Suggestions, thoughts, opinions?

I like Benjamin (but not with Archer).

I like Nora (but not with Brennan).

I'm not really a fan of the other ones.

I like that you're not finding out the sex in advance! Also, kudos for not letting anyone in on the naming process - I definitely wouldn't want that either (except for my partner, of course).

I like all your name options except for Axel and Charley, but even those aren't bad. Nora Brennan and Reed Emerson are my favorites!

PS. Mulder is super common here - it's a Dutch last name! It means "miller"...but perhaps you knew that already =).

I think that's smart. When I try to talk to my mom about names, she's like, REALLY? Henry? I don't like it. Archer? Ew. I'm like FUUUUU!

I'm just going to call the baby some little nn (when I get pregnant, that is) and then wait until he/she arrives. Once the baby is here, everyone is like ~OMG BABY~ and won't worry too much about the name. Unless you're a name nerd like me, and in that case, you still judge the hell out if it. But it feels better because you know it's on a cute little bb and you somehow can't be as harsh.

I like Benjamin Archer although I'm not *huge* on Benjamin because my BIL is Benjamin and I hate the nn Benny for some reason. Love Archer though.

Axel Harrison is a little too... macho, IMO.

I prefer Reid to Reed, but Reid Emerson would be very nice!

Nora Brennan is cute, but I think Eleanor Brennan (nn Nora) would be even better.

I don't like Jo, what about Josephine? Josephine Rose is nice.

I don't mind Suzanna Charley... although I don't like Charley for a girl (Charlie would be a bit better).

Awe I love Charlotte. Suzanna Charlotte sounds fabulous.

But then again, I'm big on full name with nn options. If I would have been Jenny and not Jennifer I would have been pissed. I like that once I was out of school I changed my nn to Jenn and didn't have to stay a Jenny. The more options, the better IMO.

My son is named Benjamin and we call him Benny.

More people tend to call him Ben than I would have ever imagined.

I have a son named Benjamin and I'm pretty sure I'M the ONLY one who calls him Benny. :) (And most of the time I call him Ben or Buddy.) Everyone calls him Ben. We've had a few people try to call him "'Jamin." Uh. No.

We decided not to find out the sex or tell the families our name choices either and I was super surprised how much it seemed to bother everyone.

On your names:
I like Benjamin Archer, Reed (though I would spell it Reid) and prefer Helena Jo Rose, the other names are NMS but are certainly nice enough

Love the names Reed and Harrison. I think Reed Harrison Mulder would make a fantastic name.

Not hugely fond of the girl names. Suzanna Jo would be really cute though.

I love pretty much all of these except Axel. Aside from the Axl Rose connection, it always sounds like a caveman name to me.

I think that the reason Fox Mulder always sounded so great, was because Fox was a short first name. For some reason the shorter the name, the better it sounds with the last name.

Good luck with whatever you choose! I'd be interested in hearing what the final outcome is!

I'm a Lauren Marie as well.

I think I may like Benjamin Archer the best, but the -er ending being on both Archer and Mulder bothers me a bit and the initials would be BAM. :\
I really don't like the name Axel, and the -el Mul- part bothers me when I say just the first and last name. I do love Harrison though, and actually, I think Axel Harrison Mulder flows the best. Reed is nice enough. I don't care for Emerson. Something about the whole name combo bothers me, but I can't quite figure out what it is.

I like Nora Brennan the best, although I think I may prefer Norah Brennan. I like that Brennan is a family name and I think the whole name flows pretty well. Jo Helena Rose is my next choice. I'm in the give-full-names-with-nn-options camp so I would prefer to see Josephine Helena Rose. I love Josephine and Helena is quite nice too. But I see why you're sticking with just Jo. I dislike both Suzanna and Charley.

Nora Brennan is quite pretty, but Eleanor instead of Nora would be equally nice. I would use Charlotte instead of Charley with Suzanna, but it's also a nice name.

Axel doesn't seem a nice choice to use with Mulder... he would grow tired of axe murder jokes, I think. I like Benjamin better.

Congratulation on your baby! I too have an October baby (hence the lj-name) and they are pretty special.;)

On to the names...

I don't understand the whole middle name appeal. I don't think you need them or they need to flow with the rest so I won't touch those.

I like Benjamin but I much prefer just plain old Ben.
Axel...Sorry can't get Axl Rose out of my mind. :/
Reed, I love it! I have a little cousin named Reed and he's the cutest thing ever!:)

Nora is nice. I wouldn't use it because I'm French and I don't like the way it sounds in French, but in English it's okay.
Jo...Hummm. I actually like Jo for a woman, a couple of my friends (Joanna and Joelle)go by Jo. But I think it'd be better to give her a longer name even if you're only going to call her Jo. If you really want to stick to only Jo, I would keep it as a middle name...
I don't care for the name Suzanna at all. I also don't like Sue or Suzie, so that one is out for me.

Trust me, you'll know what the Munchkin's name is when you see her/him.;)

This may help (though there are some hideous names in this list, there are some very nice ones too).
