[identity profile] qtshorty1625.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I'm sure this sounds like a strange question, so I'll try and word it so I don't sound completely looney.

In this community we see a lot of lists of names and we bold the ones we like. It got me thinking that there are different ways of interpreting "like". 1) The names that we love and would definitely consider using. 2) Names we probably wouldn't consider using unless the SO suggested it. 3) Names we're neutral on and wouldn't mind seeing other people use, but probably wouldn't use ourselves.

When asked what names you like, do you highlight the ones you absolutely love, or delete the ones you absolutely hate? (Or other?)

I usually end up highlighting with ones I love and would definitely use, ones I like but probably wouldn't use, and guilty pleasures.

If I'm posting the list, I'll highlight the ones I would use on my own kids, or characters, or names I like seeing other people use.

On other people's lists, I immediately get rid of the ones that I dislike or that I find boring. Then I take what's left and start asking myself whether I really love the name, or just don't mind it, ad try to get rid of a few more.

I delete the ones I really hate.

If highlighting I'll mark ones I'd use and ones I like on other people but wouldn't use myself.

If I'm posting names that I like and want to use, I won't include names that I'm not serious about. If I'm posting lists to get opinions, I usually don't highlight anything that I'll comment within the post to say which one's I like/love. If I'm suggesting names within a post, I will include names that I think are perfectly nice and acceptable names, as well as one's I love.

I usually like the ones that I'd most likely use. I also include guilty pleasure names. I don't include names that don't go along with my last name (Raeder) no matter how much I might love, love, love the name. =[

When confronted with a list of names in this community, I highlight the ones that I LOVE and would use myself, and the ones that I wouldn't necessarily use but sound good nonetheless.

I usually only highlight names I love and would use myself. Sometimes I'll include ones that I wouldn't use myself, but are still acceptable names.

If someone is asking opinions, I'll comment on each name usually. That way, I can say in more detail what I think and why. I can also establish that some names are nice enough, just not ones I'm in love with, and I can comment on how it goes with a selected middle name or last name.

If the list is really long and no mn or ln is given, I might just post a list of ones I "like," which usually consists of names that are on my list. Every once in a while, I encounter a name that for some reason hasn't made it onto my list yet, but I feel like I really like and that will be included as well.

When I'm making a post, I usually don't bold things unless they fall within a paragraph; then I bold just so people can jump straight to the names if they don't want to wade through my ramblings. In retrospect, this practice could lead people to think I like some names that I really don't. I give my thoughts on names at the bottom of my post or in a comment, if at all.

I usually keep the ones I love. I let a couple slip through that I just like, but most of the ones I keep, I would use.

When commenting on a list of names, I usually only leave the ones I really like. But I find that a lot of times I'll suddenly find that one particular name is really cute and I absolutely have to say I like it, even though I've never liked it before, and then maybe the next day I don't like it anymore either.
