Natalie Portman's baby's name is Aleph.

It's the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet, and its esoteric meaning in Judaic Kabbalah, as denoted in the theological treaty Sefer-ha-Bahir, relates to the origin of the universe, the "primordial one that contains all numbers." [1]

I think it's quite nice, actually—I'm just not used to it. WDYT?

I'm assuming it's pronounced "A-lef"? If so, I think it has a nice sound to it.

It is more like AL-lef. Kind of close to ALL-lef, like Olive. :)

I think it sounds nice but when I say it in sentences it sounds odd.

My first response was *surprised face* WHAT?

But the more I say it, the more I like it. It sounds nice.

I think it's gorgeous, the way it looks and sounds.

It reminds me of Adolph which reminds me of Adolf Hitler so, no I can't say I like that name.

I find it more like Alec, Alex, or A Leaf before Adolph.

Is it a boy or a girl (sry, I haven't heard what she had!).

Kind of an odd name. The "f" sound at the end kind of sounds harsh.

I was kind of expecting something like this from her and I quite like it =)

I was king of hoping she'd go with Arthur, after her grandfather. But there is definitely a trend among young American Jews to name a child after the grandparent, but modernize the Hebrew. So, I like it, it is a gutsy choice!
