It's like Tallulah. If you don't mind your daughter's name having less than positive connotations, and for people to ask for the rest of her life if she's named after Gone With the Wind, then go for it!
I love Scarlett. I don't think my husband would go for it.
I think by the time that children born now (or especially in the next 10 years) are asked about their names and where they come from, Gone With the Wind isn't going to be as forefront on people's minds. I think that's a sad thing, but since I love the name I think it'd work out in my favor.
I'm 20 and most of my friends (including people up to 5 years older than me) have never read or seen GWTW. Considering how smart/well read most of these people are, I can't imagine the mass population being more up on the matter. I could be wrong, sure, but that's just my guess.
I just don't think it'll be the first thing to come to mind when people hear that you named your daughter Scarlett. Like I said, maybe I'm wrong. I don't know.
I love it! I wouldn't use it, because of the word "scar" right in front. It's not a big deal, really.. but what if she got in an accident and was scarred up pretty bad? That'd be terrible regardless of her name, but I think Scarlett would make it that much more unfortunate. Of course, I'm neurotic.. so don't listen to me. ;)
i love it. it's very feminine and romantic. it'd be cute for a little girl, but could be sexy when she's a woman. i think it's a great example of a name that "grows up well" if that makes any sense.
I am going to join the extreme minority and say I don't like it either. I can only think of "scarlet woman," which maybe makes me a fuddy-duddy, but there it is.
I love it. Its one of the names I'm considering for my little girl. I'm from the South, and surprisngly, I have never heard of another Scarlett down here.
