[identity profile] sarahk-2009.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Alright, so my husband is stuck on the name Rachel. Which we came up with over 2 years ago when we started trying for a baby. Well I'm finally almost out of the first trimester with no issues, so now that it's getting real for me, I've gotten back on the naming wagon. I am not a fan of the name Rachel anymore. Glee has ruined it for me. I mean I love Lea Michele, she's a great actress, but I picked the name Rachel, because really the only 'celeb/character' with the name Rachel, was from friends and that was 90's so I felt it was not as current and by the time she was in school kids wouldn't know what Friends was anyway (or at least not ask her every 5 min if that's why her parent's named her Rachel.) So anyway. I have been thinking of new names and my husband has vetoed all but 1 of them.

Lilliana.

WDYT? and could you help me with a middle name? Our last name is Krueger (ikr..*sigh*) and I don't want the middle name to be Ann (or any variation of it.), Tracy, Betsy, Teresa, Maria, Jae or anything too out there (my husband likes 'normal' names, if that makes sense).

So.. Please help, I really wanna convince my husband into this name. I love it and it's not too run of the mill, too common or -uneek-. Thanks Ladies!

It's so strange that you would post this because I was watching a movie where the little girl's name is Lillian and I kind of fell in love with it. Although I would spell it Liliane/Lilianne since I'm French and I want a French name. I find Liliana to be a tad long with that last syllable but it's very pretty. An acquaintance of mine has a daughter named Lilia which I thought was also adorable. The first middle names that came to mind are Rose or Mae. I personally couldn't care less for middle names though so I wouldn't worry too much about it.

I like Liliana better than Rachel, personally (I prefer Liliana to Lilliana). But I also think that Rachel is wayyy less common now-a-days, if that's what you're going for. Any version of Lily is ridiculously popular right now.

I didn't mean to burst your bubble, but I seriously know like 3 baby Lilian/Liliana/Lily's. :-/ It sounded like you wanted something nice and a little rare (what I want too!). A lot of popular girl names right now are very nice and ~classic~ sounding (Amelia, Lilian/Liliana, Sophia, Ava).

Rachel, at #100, isn't going to be super popular. It MIGHT get way more popular because of Glee, but I have no idea (I don't watch Glee but I know A LOT of people do). I'm just not sold on Rachel, but it's a perfectly respectable name!

I can give you some other suggestions?

Oh and I'm Jennifer and was born in 1989. Needless to say, I was like the 4th Jennifer in my class and constantly was called "Jenny W." It annoyed me to no end!

Liliana (more common spelling) is at #124, so I suppose it's not too popular. Would you use Lily as a nn?

My suggestions:

Lydia
Adeline
Delilah (Lilah nn)

Cecelia
Tabitha
Claire/Clare
Hannah

Well if you called her Lilliana the whole time and not Lily, she would have a better chance of not ending up the 3rd or 4th Lily in her class, ya know? So maybe Lilliana is right for you. :-)

Ana is a nice nn for Lilliana too.

I think it also depends a lot on where you live - for example, I grew up in NYC, and I only knew a handful of people with names from the top 20 lists during the 80s yet there were always between 2 and 4 Dianas around (myself being one of them) and I think Diana peaked at maybe #65 during the 80s. I never met an Ashley, Heather, Amanda, Courtney, ... until my late 20s when I moved to Raleigh!

I don't know how serious you guys were about the name at the time, but I'd be devastated if I were your husband :( we also have had a settled name for over 3 years now, though we're nowhere near TTC.
But I guess it's a good think you relented on Rachel, because for me the Friends association is still very much on lol (and also a reason why I like the name).
I was also going to suggest Liliana Rachel, though!

However Lilliana is mispelled, sorry to say. Liliana is the proper spelling, as it comes from "lilium" in latin (meaning "iris"). Liliana technically means "daughter of Iris".

Middle name suggestions:
Liliana Maxine
Liliana Sophia
Liliana Frances
Liliana Justine
Liliana Violet

I think Lilliana is so pretty, although I think I prefer it spelled Liliana. Liliana Rachel would work really well.

Rachel is not uncommon, but feels much more refreshing these days than Liliana and its various spellings...I think Lily/Liliana are heading towards Bella/Isabella type popularity, which is sad because while they're gorgeous names, the overuse takes away the stunning quality. :(

Rachel Liliana or Liliana Rachel would be pretty.

Some names with a similar feel to Liliana that you might like:
Viviana, Gillian/Jillian, Adriana, Gabrielle/Gabriella, Calista, Genevieve, Gianna, Lavender, Lilac, Ruby, Imogen, Seraphina, Georgina/Georgiana, Ella, Emmeline, Emilia, Sabrina, Natalia, Susannah, Aria, Arabella, Araminta, Cordelia, Cecelia, Elena, Lia, Annika, Aurora, Angelica/Angelina, Julia/Juliet, Gemma, Bridget, Jemima, Vanessa, Victoria, Marissa, Diana, Daniela, Celeste, Danica, Violet, Leonora, Elodie, Rosalie, Valeria, Miranda, Cassandra, Lydia, Clara, Delilah, Felicity/Felicia, Andrea, Raina, Magnolia, Bianca, Josephine, Fiona, Domenica, Evangeline, Carolina, Helena, Astoria, Lara, Piper, Liza, Layla, Thea, Lyra, Lacey, Daphne

I kind of hate Liliana. Personally, it sounds 100% trailer trash to me---just because Lillian is such a lovely, classic name that Liliana just ruins the classic sound of it, and sounds like a boring gross add on to make it "unique", ala Aubriana, Adriana, Liliana, Gabriana, Kayliana, etc. All of the -----ana names are NMS.

I think the middle names Renee, Daphne, Iris, Jane, Rose, Eve, and Scarlett all sound nice with it.

ps. Love Rachel! And I don't think of Glee at all! (Although admittedly, I am not a Gleek.) Rachel Liliana sounds nice, or Liliana Rachel.

Lilliana Isabel? I don't know why that stands out to be, but it does!
