At my store (Things Remembered) today, I took a phone order for an engraving on a children's bank and had to have the woman on the phone repeat the name and spelling about twelve times because I couldn't quite comprehend it. The child, whom I have no idea if it's a boy or a girl, is named Sterlyn.

I suppose they were working off Sterling...but Sterlyn looks terrible and sounds worse.

I don't absolutely loathe it, but it sounds like the word "sterile" rolls into it, so it's kinda ugh :/
Seeing as it ends in -lyn, I'm willing to bet it's a girl. Sterling sounds more masculine, to me.

I used to really like Sterling. Sterlyn isn't the worst looking name I've seen, although it is still bad, but I can't stand how it sounds! That dropped 'g' drives me crazy!

I've known people to replace -land with -lyn, but I'd never seen anybody replace -ling with -lyn. It's weird, because -land and -ling don't sound at all the same, so I don't know why they're being replaced with the same sound and this is just a bad, weird name, lol.
