Elspeth and Elseveth

WDYT? If you hate them, which is worse? Is someone who uses this name dooming their child to a life of constantly correcting people that their name isn't Elizabeth?

ETA-- I think I may have actually heard Elseveth before, but I realized after double-checking that I was misremembering the spelling/pronunciation of Elsvet.

I prefer Elspeth to Elseveth (kinda had problems pronouncing it). I'm pretty indifferent. On one hand, I think it is a cool variation and something more different than Elizabeth... on the other, I don't really like the way it sounds.

I hate them both very much - I don't know which is worse. Elseveth looks like a drunk tried to say Elizabeth and Elspeth makes me think of Maspeth (a town in Queens, NY). And to your last question - probably.

When I say Elseveth out loud I feel like I am almost lisping. I am not a fan.

Elspeth is very nice. Elseveth looks and sounds ugly. Yes, this poor child would constantly be telling people her name was ~not~ Elizabeth!

I like Elspeth, Elseveth is kind of awkward

Elspeth is okay, surely she'd just be called "Elsa" all the time (which I like!) Elseveth sounds like some elf from LOTR.

I love variants of Elizabeth.

I have heard of Elspeth before and never Elseveth ... so I think Elseveth is a bit too out there to use, so my pick would be Elspeth

I really like Elspeth and I really dislike Elseveth.
The latter sounds like someone trying to say Elizabeth with a lisp.

A friend of a friend's name is Elspeth. I'd never heard it before and thought it was unique if nothing else. I don't hate it, but I am not in love with it either. I don't really think of Elizabeth when I hear it. Elspeth is two syllables; Elizabeth is four... that's a pretty big difference.

I don't like Elseveth (this is the first time I've heard/seen it). I would say Elseveth is the worst.

I don't mind Elspeth, and I definitely don't think they will constantly have to correct people!

I really don't like Elseveth, at all.

I quite like Elspeth. I think it is lovely. However, it could sound a bit like someone saying Elizabeth quickly, especially as it isn't a terribly well known name. I would use it anyway, if you really loved it.

My first thought with Elseveth was that it sounded like an elf from LotR, which I saw someone else thought as well. It has a kind of interesting sound, but I don't like the way it looks.

I really like the name Elisheva and every time I'm spelling Elizabeth, I manage to type Elizaveth, which is impractical, but I like it. Elseveth reminds me of that.
I've never liked Elspeth, although the dislike is more visual than sound-wise, but I don't connect it with Elizabeth at all.

Elspeth, definitely, though Elseveth is really pretty as well.

But in the competition of different forms of Elizabeth, Erzsébet wins out for me, hands down.

I'm pretty sure it would be dooming a child to a life of correcting, but I absolutely love Elspeth (more, even, after I had a dream that involved the name). Elseveth is interesting, I've never heard it before. I assumed it was an old, obscure version of the name, but when I tried Googling it, most of the reults had to do with World of Warcraft, so maybe not?

Elspeth is an almost-guilty pleasure of mine. There was an Elspeth at my college and she never had problems with people thinking her name was Elizabeth. That seems like it would be a much bigger issue with Elseveth, which I do NOT like.

Neither are my style, but I'd choose Elspeth over Elseveth.

I love the name Elspeth but I've not heard Elseveth before. The latter does sound a bit like Elizabeth but I don't think so much that it would be constantly corrected.

Sorry, but I agree. I especially don't like how Elspeth sounds.

I've never heard of Elseveth, and I don't love the sound of it, but I do like Elspeth! It's pretty.

[nerd hat on]
It really doesn't. Elven names have definite patterns and this doesn't meet any of them.

I like Elspeth. It makes me think of one of Samantha's relatives on Bewitched. It's nice and different without being too "out there" or bizarre sounding. I don't like the other one at all. At least not for a real person, but for RP purposes, it would be great!

I prefer Elspeth to Elseveth but I honestly don't like either, for pretty much the reason you mentioned- I think she would constantly be saying "No, not Elizabeth..." and while I like several uncommon/unconventional names, they are very distinct names.

If that makes any sense at all?

Ah, there you are! I was afraid to put in LOTR as a reference because I knew it was wrong, but it was just the first thing that came to mind. By LOTR I really meant, uh .. "High-end fantasy" :)

I'm a little bit embarrassed that I know that, haha.
