After months of arguing about heritage and names, my brother Jim and his wife Trista welcomed Lilianna Sarnai Passich, five pounds and healthy although two weeks early. Lilianna is a reference to our great-grandmother Lilian and Sarnai is a reference to Trista's grandmother, who recently died. (It's Mongolian for 'rose'.)

What do you think?

I much prefer Liliana to Lilianna, but I don't mind the name. The only unfortunate thing about any Lily version, is the popularity of it at the moment.

I like that the names have lots of meaning to the family.

I'm not a fan of modified patronimics (the proper spelling, derived from Latin, would be Liliana, whereas Lilianna is incorporating Anna), but I'm in love with Sarnai! How do they pronounce it? I'd pronounce it Sahr-NAH-ee in italian.

Lillianna is a mouthful, imo. Why not just do Lillian? Sarnai is ok, but it doesn't flow very well with Lillianna.

Lilianna looks like it has WAY too many Ns in it. If I were just hearing the name, without seeing it spelled out though, I'd like it. I especially enjoy that there is a reason behind both names.

It's not my style, but it's also a name from a different culture for me (referring to Sarnai) so that could be affecting it. It's pretty though, and important and meaningful so overall I give thumbs up!

Liliana is one of my favorite names and I prefer this spelling, but at least it wasn't Lileighannah.

I love Sarnai as well, and its meaning. I think Lilianna Sarnai sounds great together. I also like it when children are named to honor family members. Great name!

I hate Lilianna, especially because Lilian is so classic and pretty. To me it is akin to "your great grandmother was Catherine, so I named you Caiytlynn." Blech.

I don't like the way Sarnai sounds at all, but I can appreciate that they did it for family heritage, which is nice.

Lilianna's a tad too frilly for my taste, but I love the meaning behind both names.

I like the meaning behind the names.. and I like Lilianna. The spelling doesn't bother me.
Sarnai isn't my style at all.. When I read it, I want to say Sar-nee (sorry not very good with pronunciation) even though I know it's not how it's supposed to be said.. And the way I want to say it reminds me of a slang way (at least here in England) of saying sandwich..
