So is Henry a bad idea when the last name is Harris? Is Henry still commonly shortened to Harry, or is that not really something you'd have to worry about these days? I do like Henry _______ Harris, but Harry _______ Harris is just open to a whole wealth of terrible teasing.

I like Henry too but never heard of Harry as a nickname
I would guess that if anyone tries to use it as a nickname you can just say- 'oh, we don't call him that'

I don't think anyone would spontaneously call him Harry without being told to first, although it is a nickname still in occasional use. Though personally, I'm not big on Henry Harris - but it's not as bad as Harry Harris.

Henry Harris = no. I believe an individual needs more variety in their name/identity than that. That said, it doesn't *sound* bad, but it is too matchy, imo, even besides Harry as a nickname.

I don't think Harry is an automatic nn for Henry. I think Hank is more more of a typical assumption for a nn. Henry Harris is a bit much for me... too much alliteration.

I personally like it. Henry is a beautiful name, I say go for it!

Henry sounds good. I've never heard of a Henry being called Harry.

I was thinking it might just be more commmon amongst us English, but I see you're Canadian, so I don't know.

It's fine, I think. Harry doesn't seem to be used a nn for Henry too much, as the other comments said. :)

I actually know two couples with the last name Harris that named their little boys Henry. One is about 7 and the other is 4 or 5. Neither of them get called Harry as far as I know.

I don't know, can YOU get past Harry Harris? That would be the big hurdle for me, personally. I don't think I'd be able to name my son Henry Harris if I already thought of him as Harry Harris (even as something I would NOT want him called, ya know?).

I've known three different Henry's. Two of them go by Hank and the third goes just by Henry or his last name. I didn't know Harry was a nickname for Henry.

I love Henry, except I just want to call him Harry. (And every Henry I know gets called Harry at some point!) Henry Harris, not terrible, but Harry Harris is terrible.

I like Henry a lot. I think Henry Harris is fine. I agree with the other posters who said Harry is not an automatic nn for Henry. Hank is the usual nn for Henry.

I'm not a huge fan of the alliteration, but I wouldn't worry too much about people using such an uncommon unobvious nickname without you using it first.

I know that Harry is a nickname for Henry, but I would never think to call a Henry 'Harry' unless he was introduced to me as such.

The first thing I thought of when I read the name Henry Harris, though, was William Henry Harrison, the US president.

I don't think most people he'd run into would know as much about names as some of the people here. They wouldn't be called Harry unless a family member or themselves told people too. And, as odd as it is, I think Henry Harris sounds like a good name. Sure they are both H's but they sound different, different middles, different ends. I can see, like Henry William Harris. That's a good strong traditional name.

I don't personally know any Henrys called Harry. Hank is a nickname that I would think of for Henry. Henry Harris sounds fine to me

Personally I think it's fine. I don't think Harry is a common enough nickname for Henry anymore for it to really be a problem.

I think it's fine. I doubt anyone would start calling him Harry unless you instigated it, especially when his last name is Harris.

Reminds me a lot of Henry Higgins from My Fair Lady. Whether that's a good thing or a bad thing is up to you.

I think the fact that his last name is Harris might invite people to call him Harry, with or without permission, so I'm going to say yes, bad idea.
