My fiancee and I are having a baby that's due February 14, 2007. I've always liked unique names and he agrees on that much but he doesn't seem to love any of the girl names I do and it's frustrating! He thinks they're all "ok" but he's not passionate about any of them.I'm open to some more ideas and am curious about what you think of our names.

Mitchell, Raye, and Lynn are all family names and are special to us so one of them has to be the middle name. And the babies last name will be Benoit. We've both agreed on Bowen Mitchell if it's a boy. FINALLY something we both really like and agree on. How do you feel about Bowen Mitchell Benoit?

The girls name is a battle though. Me and my whole family LOVE the name Meadow Raye Benoit and I also really like Astrid Lynn. He's ok with both of them but he's fighting for Jasmine Raye or Callisto Lynn. I think Jasmine is cute but it doesn't sound very unique. I can't think of any Jasmines I know though, but you get what I mean. And I think Callisto is pretty, calling her Calli would be cute, but it sounds like a ponies name.

So out of the girls names what are your thoughts and opinions? I can be swayed either way I think but I LOVE the two names I've picked and I think Jasmine is just ok. lol.

I think Meadow Raye sounds like a really cute name.
That kind of makes me think about how one of my friends from grade school, her middle name is Storm.
I don't know why it made me think of that, but it did.

I'm bad with names, but I believe that name is adorable.
I'm not a big fan of Jasmine, because it makes me think of Aladdin and stuff. But I also like Astrid Lynn.
Callisto is... eehhh. an iffy thing with me
But it's all up to you, because it's your baby : )

Thanks for the input. :) We still have a lot of deciding to do. At least we've narrowed the list down and can work from there. Haha.

I LOVE Meadow Raye and Astrid Lynn. I like Callista better than Callisto, but that's nice too! Meadow Raye is my vote, and wholeheartedly! Congrats!

I was just about to suggest you consider CallistA...like Callista Flockhart. I think it sounds a lot nicer for a girl :-)

I like the sound of Callista more than Callisto-- but I like Callisto more because it's one of Jupiters moons and me and my fiancee are both astrology nerds. hehe.

If you can't agree on a first name with a set middle name, can you forget about the middle name? although... Astrid Jasmine and Astrid Callisto sound really dorky. Jasmine Meadow is awful... You can always do 3 names. Or a name with a "lynn" ending?

i don't think it's fair in the least for you to bring up the fact that your whole family loves a certain name. it is not THEIR kid, it is yours. the decision should be between the two of you. it isn't fair to team up (that's setting your relationship up for a slew of other problems in the future).

I think Callisto is cute, and not a pony name, if that helps at all. Callisto and Astrid are my 2 favorites there. I am not a fan of Meadow and Jasmine. Maybe you can find a way to use both. Or maybe you'll get lucky and have a boy and not have to decide on a girls name until #2. :P

Saying that my family is a fan of a certain name isn't meant to be an issue like that. My fiancee is a HUGE part of the family. We have one of those huge, very tight-knit loving families and he's the one who brought up the name issue to them and looked to see what they liked. It's in no way a team effort against him on the names we like. Everyone loves all of the names but when Joey told them that we were torn between Meadow and Jasmine, everyone was crazy about Meadow and ok with Jasmine. It turned into a cute thing when he looked at me and was like "ok, maybe Meadow is a better choice." and everyone laughed about it. It's not like we're teaming up on him and pushing for a name. He's the one who brought up the names and asked for advice on it. I'm not gonna lie though, I think it sways both of us when our families are our world and we both like all the names but they're CRAZY about Meadow.

And on to part two, it's not an issue with the set middle name, we both want it to be Raye or Lynn, whichever happens to sound best with the name we choose. We're both torn on the first name though. As I said we both like them all but we each have our favorites and are trying to decide what we like more. We could both go with any of the names and be happy about it, we're just looking for other opinions on them that maybe we haven't thought of.

Callisto is definitely my favorite.

Any Jasmine I've known (and there have been 4 or 5) were all slutty so I'm not really a fan of the name.

Meadow is too new-age or whatever for me. Astrid is ok, but NMS I guess.

Mind if I ask how you came up with Bowen?

I just always liked the idea of having a little girl or boy and calling it "Bow." I think it sounds cute. But I don't like that it seems like a nickname and not a real name so we looked through baby names and found Bowen and both really liked it. Also, it means "son of the young one" and I thought that was cute too since me and my fiancee are young parents.

Hehe ok I can see you're not a fan of the name Bowen. :P We can't help it though! It was just one of those names we both loved instantly. We could always pick a different name but it's so hard for us to find a name we're BOTH crazy about. I like that you can call him Bow when he's little and if he thinks his name is too weird he can just go by Owen which I think is really nice too. Beau is cute but it sounds too rough and jolty if that makes sense. Bowen is softer sounding. I'm open for completely different boys names in general I'm just hard to please and my fiancee is too so that makes us REALLY hard to please, lol. It has to be unique, and we prefer if it's something to do with fantasy, astrology, or mythology. We're nerds what can I say. :D

I cant say I like Bowen but its good you agree on it! I love Meadow Raye. Meadow is on my list, as is Raye spelt Rae(for a middle name).

yeah. I think I picked a name for when I have a little girl!! I first thought of Catlin but then a male friend of mine had that for a middle name and I used to call him Cat lin all the time so I wouldn't use Catlin.

I adore the name "Astrid"! I hope that he comes around to that one!

Thanks. :D I dunno if any of the fans of the name Astrid have read the book White Oleander or seen the movie, but I love the character Astrid in it. I also love that it means Divine Strength. It's a very strong name. That book and movie is just one of those that every girl has to see or read.

I agree completely... I actually saw the movie first (shame) and I thought it was really good, then a few years later I read the book and was blown away... I can't believe how much amazing material they cut out for the movie!

i have been wondering what has caused astrid to be popping up so often lately, i had completely forgotten about the character astrid in that book/movie (which i also loved). ive loved the name astrid since i first saw the movie backbeat in the early 90s.

Maybe go with Callista? It's still rather uncommon and maybe will sound more the way you want it to?

I like Astrid, I think. Jasmine's OK, but not really my style, neither is Meadow.

I like Bowman, but with your last name, I'm not sure it's a good fit. It's a nice name, but I think a B name might sound kind of weird or repetitive with your last name.

How do you pronounce your last name? If it's ben-oyt, I think Bowen sounds okay with it, but if it's ben-wah, I think it's waaaaay to rhymey and sing-songy.

Jasmine is nice, but yeah, kind of popular. You probably don't know of any because they are all still kids right now. It's not that common though (around #30 or so), and it is pretty.

Meadow - love. One of my guilty pleasure names. I'm not sure I'd be brave enough to use it, but I like it.

Astrid - Nice other than the "ass" that kind of jumps out of the first syllable.

Callisto - CallistA is one of my favorite names. Callisto doesn't seem right on a girl to me.

I'd suggest Owen instead of Bowen. It works better with your last name.

i absolutely adore astrid. it's been on my list for about five years now. lynn is just TOO common of a name for astrid, but if it has significance to you, that's cool. :) and with callisto... i like calista more. it sounds more feminine to me.

i don't really care for jasmine. i think of the princess and the girl i went to high school with. i just don't think it is a very nice name. it's not the worst name.... but i'd NEVER use it.

meadow isn't that bad. it's pretty nice. but i used to work at an ice cream shack called the meadows and a bunch of their grandkids (surname: meadows) went to school with me.

so... i like astrid the most out of those names. PULL FOR ASTRID!

Meadow and Jasmine sound rather porny, and Callisto looks like it would be a male name. Callista would be better and you could still use Calli. Speaking of which, Benoit is a male name (French for Benjamin).

unfortunately, your son wont be using his middle name regularly, so i personally think bowen benoit sounds kind of...i dont know, just not right. i think just bo/beau sounds better.

i dont like jasmine one bit, its great on a three year old, but on an adult? it doesnt work. i dislike callisto more than i dislike calista. calista is okay in comparison, for me.

Astrid is my favorite, but Jasmine is pretty as well.

I had never heard of the name Bowen for a person, but I really like it!! I think of all the girls names you've posted, I like Astrid Lynn the best. But only because I'm imagining your last name to be pronounced as 'Ben-no.' If it isn't pronounced with a 'no' at the end, then I'd go for Callisto Lyn ;) Her nn doesn't have to be Calli if ou don't want it to be, it could be Cici, Lissie or Listie.
