Dean: on an adult woman that my mother has recently started working with.

I am so torn, as I like the name for boys (and it's my dad's name, so odds are if I have boys, it might get used), but on girls...I feel like it's something I don't care for now but that would grow on me quickly. Or not, lol.

WDYT?

It kind of reminds me of Gene and Jean. I instantly think it's a male name when someone says it, but the sound and spelling reminds of the female Jean. I don't think Dean sounds extremely masculine, but I would have a hard time getting over it used on a girl. I like it for a male name though!

Dean's one of my top names for a boy, so I just can't see it working on a girl.

I'm pretty sure I've heard someone in this comm mention that they're considering using Dean as a middle for a girl so the idea isn't completely foreign to me. I don't think it would work on most girls as a first name, but I suppose it's not terrible as a middle. (I'm usually VERY against male names on girls) You could definitely get away with it as a family name. Personally, I would probably feminize it--Deana and pronounce it Dee-nuh, and then use Dean as a nn if it suits.

I don't like it when people give their daughters masculine names, but that's mostly because I'm bitter. All of my favorite boy names have been "converted" to girls' names that way.
