Two of my coworkers recently had babies, here are their names:

Zaylene Hokulani, Hokulani means heavenly star in Hawaiian. I have no clue where she got the name Zaylene.

And next is

Kaylie Kiyomi Kailani Ka'aumoana Hina'ea, yes she has five names which from what I am told 3 to 5 names before your last name is traditional in Hawaiian culture. The names usually make a sentence like 'child of my heart, blessed from heaven, a heavenly star.' Kiyomi is after the father's Japanese grandmother, Kailani means the sea and sky, Ka'aumoana means seafarer, Hina'ea means goddess of sunset. From what the mom told me the three Hawaiian names mean something like 'goddess of sunset who touches the seas and sky, dwells in the ocean'

That's just what she told me, I may be wrong on spellings or exact meanings but she is Hawaiian so I'm inclined to trust her. On licenses and such long Hawaiian names are shortened to initials, for example:

Smith, Kylie K K H

What do you think?

I think it's nice that they are honoring their culture, HOWEVER... All I can think about is the paperwork!! I have two middle names, and I bought a car today and the paperwork was so ridiculous because in some places I had to sign my full name, some just the first middle initial, some both middle initials, etc. depending on if it was for the state or dealership or the county. I guess those types of names are more common in Hawaii, so maybe it's not as convoluted, but GAH!

Yeah, but even the middle initial thing is tricky. I have two middle initials: E.P. Most places they only have room for one, so I opt for E. However, on my driver's license, my name reads: Surname, Melissa Elena P because they didn't have room for the whole thing so it looks like my first name is double and P. is my middle. It's just annoying. /personal frustration, lol.

Of all the Jay/Kay/Bay/Ray etc. names, I actually don't mind Zaylene that much. It just sounds like the French pronunciation of Celine to me (albeit with more emphasis on the first letter, of course).

I'm not really a fan of Hawaiian names, but the meanings are awesome and Hokulani sounds pretty.

The second one is way too long though, even for my taste. Yet again...the meaning is great.

I know a Kailani, I think it's pretty. I think Hawaiian names are pretty in general, they have lovely meanings.
