A girl I work with mentioned that her first daughter (who is not even conceived yet) will be named Trinity Nevaeh. Thoughts?

Also, she was pronouncing Nevaeh "na-VAY". I always thought it was na-VAY-ah, but she said it could be pronounced both ways. I kind of think na-VAY makes better phonetic sense, but I've just never heard it that way. So which is it?

Phonetically I think Ne-Vay-Uh makes more sense then Na-Vay, not sure how Ne turns to Na and why the -eh is ignored.

I guess the true phonetics should ne-vah-eh or ne-vah-uh but those are hard to say.

My initial thought was "oh please let her have boys or a change of taste before a daughter is conceived."

I've only ever heard it pronounced Na-Vay, but I have no idea what the true pronounciation is supposed to be. Then again, it's made up so does that just make it a free for all?

Child is doomed to a life of being stereotyped. It's a shame.

I'm curious as to why you feel this way. Most people will never know her middle name and Trinity is a common enough name, I'm confused. Is the issue Neveah, Trinity, or the combination that you think would be stereotyped and what type of stereotype do you envision?

Trinity, at least in the area where I live, is not a name anyone would give their child. I have never once in my life seen it on a real person. People(myself included) would think it was kind of cheap sounding. And Neveah.... Is awful. That's the only nice thing I can say there.

Trinity to me sounds like "MY BABY NEEDS A SILLY NAME TO SOUND SPECIAL!" and it makes me think the parents aren't terribly smart. Awful as that is.

I don't think it's made it YET, but I think that Nevaeh is making its way toward the domain of stripper/whorish names.

Ugly name, but I've always thought it was pronounced Nuh-vay-uh like you said, but either way, it's a god-awful name.

I need to know who came up with this Nevaeh crap, so I can find them and punch them in their stupid face

This was actually discussed here recently: the legit pronunciation of Nevaeh should be NEV-ah-eh, or NEE-vah-eh (like Neva+eh) or at the most Nuh-vay-eh, but not Nuh-vay-uh. Why would "eh" be pronunced "uh"?

Also, I agree that Neh-vay (as if it were Nevae disregarding the h)) makes more phonetic sense than Nah-vay-uh

because in my californian american accent, 90% of vowels in unstressed syllables turn into schwas.

Because it's a schwa, which most people in the US pronounce like "uh."

Nevaeh is pronounced "nah-VAY-uh-itz-heh-ven-bac-wurdz!"

Seriously, everyone has to justify naming their kid that. I have never met anyone that does not say it that way, "This is Nevaeh, it's 'heaven' backwards!"

Ick. That is Trashy with a capital T.

And I always pronounced Nevaeh nuh-vay-uh. I can't stand that name, and pronouncing it na-VAY just makes it worse.

Maybe she'll pick something a little less...trendy when she is actually pregnant?

I thought it would be pronounced na-vay-ah. I like that name pronounced that way, but with Trinity... ew
