Jul. 30th, 2006 07:11 amOn Memorial day when we were walking through an old old cemetary that a lot of my dad's greats and great-greats are buried in, I ran across some family names that I really liked. My husband didnt like any of them, so they didnt make "the list" but I thought I'd run them by you guys and see what you thought.
Jabe (full name Jabeus but Jabe was all that was on the tombstone even, not sure of the spelling of Jabeus)
Amasa (pronounced in my family AM-uh-see although that pronunciation doesnt make a lot of sense to the spelling, it should be uh-MAY-suh I think)
Augustus
Samuel
Ella
In other news, my husband and I were joking about naming our first born son for both of his grandpa's... our son's name would be Melvin Marvin Martin. =)

Date: 2006-07-30 02:24 pm (UTC)Im just thinking about the poor kid's future... But he might get nicknames like:
M&M's, and Marvin the Martian... etc..
But who knows. Besides I guess you can't really shield your kids entirely from bullies.

Date: 2006-07-30 02:42 pm (UTC)I would thing Amasa would be A-mah-suh (I'm bad with pronunciations though so that spelling out of it might not make sense lol) uh-mah-suh would work too I think- just not seeing the MAY in there *shrug*
I think it's pretty. I wonder what it means?
I really like the name Samuel but hate how it always gets shortened to Sam so I'm avoiding it.

Date: 2006-07-30 04:07 pm (UTC)AM-uh-see is nice, but uh-MAY-suh sounds like the beginning of the word emaciated. I knew a girl named Tomasa once, tom-AH-suh, and i guess that reminds me of her name.
augustus is very old and classic but i would never use it.
i love samuel. ella is cute, but more MN in my opinion.
i would say more but my husband has just made bacon!
