Jul. 29th, 2006 11:23 pmI've posted my list before, but I've added names since then and have taken others off...so I figured I'd share again.
My rule for naming is that first names can't be the same as a relative that has been alive during my lifetime, since it'd get way too confusing, but the name still needs to mean something to me. Middle names HAVE TO mean something to me beyond "Oh, that sounds cool!" I'm just set on the idea that mns are to name your child something you hope will mesh into their personality. I'm a big believer on names shaping a person's personality (I'm not sure why...I just am), so names meaning something is a big deal for me.
Girls:
First Names:
Julianna (nn - Jules)
Olivia (nn - Liv)
Amelia (nn - Mia or Lia)
Miranda (nn - Mia)
Danielle (nn - Dani)
Jordan [probably won't use since it's unisex background doesn't mesh well with my otherwise extremely feminine names]
Emily [probably won't use due to popularity, but is definitely one of my favorites. Hopefully when I have kids in 5-10 years, it won't be so popular]
Eliza
Andrea (nn - Annie)
Caroline (nn - Carrie)
Gillian (nn - Jill/Jillie) [not sure about this one, but I've started to really like it. And I know that the nns don't really work with the spelling, but I don't care, I like it better spelled with a G]
Middle Names:
Lilian - after my best friend, whose mn is Lil
Rose - after another friend whose mn is Rose. Also sort of after my favorite President (Franklin Roosevelt - get it? Rose? ;)) [sorry, can't help it...I'm a Poli Sci major!! My kids are lucky they aren't being named Franklin Delano, John Fitzgerald, and William Jefferson ;)]
Eleanor - after Eleanor Roosevelt, one of my heroes.
Judith - after Judy Blume, my favorite author (I don't think her real name is Judith, actually, but I HATE the name Judy...I really like Judith, though)
Margaret - after my maternal grandmother
Elisabeth - after Elizabeth Cady Stanton (I don't like it with a z, though...not sure, why, haha)
Cady - see above
Boys:
First Names:
Charles (nn - Charlie) - after my great-grandfather
Luke
Liam
Noah
Elijah (nn - Eli)
Asher
Middle Names:
Michael - after my older brother
Atticus - after my favorite literary character (Atticus Finch in To Kill a Mockingbird)
Brian - after one of my best friends
Timothy - after my dad
Robert - after a friend of the family
Otto - a family name on my dad's side of the family (my cousin, my paternal grandfather's first name and his father's middle name) [probably won't use, though...I'm not a huge fan of it, but I do like the family tradition of it]
Robin - after my aunt...I hate this as a girl's name, but I LOVE it for a boy - I just wouldn't use it as a first name because it's considered rather feminine
The only name combo that is set in stone is Julianna Lilian. I know a lot of people think it has too many l's and n's and that the names are too similar sounding, but I am absolutely in love with it, and the meaning behind the two names to me is the important part. I'm also pretty dead set on Charles Michael and Luke Atticus, but not as much so.

Date: 2006-07-30 04:52 am (UTC)Like Elijah and Noah from your boys
HATE Atticus and Otto (just not my style i guess lol)
I would really advise against the Gillian/Jill thing too.
And, I think Julianna Lilian is very pretty and not too similiar. I like Lillian with two Ls in the middle but if you're doing it after someone, that's entirely different. :)

Date: 2006-07-30 04:57 am (UTC)I'm not sure if I like Lillian or Lilian. Either way works for me, I think, and since her mn is only Lil, not Lilian, it's still after her either way.
