(no subject)

I just finished reading a book and the main characters were named Dillon (m) and Laine (f).

Thoughts on those names?

I have a young (8 or so) relative named Dillon so I've been pondering whether I like it or not (or better than Dylan) for awhile now and I just can't decide. I like it, but it also makes me think of the spice (Dill).

I think I like Laine, but as a middle name if at all. I'm really not sure though.

I like Dillon and love the name Laine.

I dont know. I think its cute and simple. I like simple (although I can also like really elaborate names-rarely something in between). I also in general am a fan of L names such as Lily, Leilani, Lyla, Lyric (if it wasnt so trendy!), Lanai and Landry!

I have it on my list spelt Layne. I kind of like the 'i' better though, haha. I also like it as a nn (Im not sure for what) or middle name. ALthough in reality I probably wouldnt use it because I like my other L names alot and I dont think I would want all my kids to have L names.

All one letter is to matchy matchy and your thought is a good one!

Lanai is a name too? I only know it as a word that means porch or veranda!

Its a name to me.. lol

[identity profile] calixbat.livejournal.com 2006-07-29 08:05 pm (UTC)(link)

I've always liked Dylan. I knew a kid growing up named Dylan - didn't know too many of them tho. If I have a son we're naming him Damon - but it's a family name. Every man on my side (Dad's) has the middle name Damon - and I want to bring it out.

Lane is on both our boy and girl short lists. Possibly spelling it Layne or Laine for a girl. I love it.

Yeah, it's a pretty common last name, but I don't know anyone personally with it so I still love it for a first name. I couldn't use it for a middle name because then when you say the first and middle name together, it sounds like an address to me.

Regardless of popularity, I still love the name Dylan, but not spelled Dillon. That's just my personal preference.

I like the name Laine but I like Lainey or Laynie much better. My cousin's name is Stephanie Layne, and she's always gone by Layne. I think I like that spelling better, too.

Which book was it, btw? :)

I own Jewels of the Sun by Nora Roberts. You're right, it's great summer fluff, which I love. :)

I like Dillon better than I like Dylan. I knew a Dylan in school and he was just one of those kids you want to hurt. lol. Dillon's much better, IMO.

I've always loved the name Lane/Laine... I think because I used to love the show Daria.. (Jane Lane, Trent Lane.. yeah lol)

Dillon reminds me of the ski town in Colorado. Dylan just seems more like a human name to me.

Laine has a whiny sound that I don't like at all.

Dillon reminds me of Kroger grocery stores in Kansas: Dillon's.

I like Laine, but without the i - Lane just seems right to be. I HATE the name Dylan/Dillon, but I hate Dylan SLIGHTLY less than I hate Dillon. I know people with the last name Dillon, so that's always seemed like the ln to me and Dylan seems like the fn.

My sons name is Dylan, so i am biased on the name lol I like it :) ... we didnt like the spelling 'Dillon' though ...
If we had a girl, Cameron ( my bf) wanted her middle name to be Lane, after his moms sister, who was murdered by her husband ... >_

I generally dislike any name you have to put an (m) or (f) after :/

Me too.

I love Laine, but I would spell it Lane. It's been growing on me recently. Dillon I'm not a huge fan of, but I like Dylan. Sort of.

[identity profile] sarahrose.livejournal.com 2006-07-29 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I really LOVE Laine for a girl. It's with a Y on my list. Dillon makes me think of Matt Dillon or dill pickles. Not a huge fan of the former, love the latter, but not for a name, lol.

[identity profile] sarahrose.livejournal.com 2006-07-29 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
I do like Dylan though.

[identity profile] miss-tee.livejournal.com 2006-07-29 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
my brother is named Dylan, so Dillon has always looked wrong to me. To each their own though. I just think it makes the name look so harsh. Also the meaning of the name is "God of the sea" and to me "Dylan" goes much more with that, when you write it in cursive it is so flowey, sort of similar to waves.

Laine is pretty but it makes me think of Layne Staley.

he was the singer of Alice in Chains. He died of a heroin overdose.

Dylan is okay but Dillon is just weird looking. Laine is okay but very boring.

I love the name Dillon. It's on my boys list- I like it spelled that way instead of Dylan- I feel like it's more original.
