[identity profile] zombiemombie.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Quick recap in case you don't already know my story: Husband and I are having baby #2, I'm due on May 1st, its a boy. We have one daughter, her name is Aida Samantha Jane.

We have been sort of planning on naming our son Harvey Emery Dean. But now that we've been referring to in-utero baby as "Harvey" for so long, we're both thinking that when he is actually a "real baby" its going to feel weird to call him Harvey. I hope that makes sense to someone other than me. Haha.

At any rate, I happened across the name "Arlo" today (in fact, it may have been in this community that I saw that,..) And now we both really like that.

So, WDYT of Arlo Emery Dean?
Is Arlo > Harvey in your opinion?
Would Aida & Arlo be a cute sibset? Cuter than Aida & Harvey?
Share!

I prefer Arlo to Harvey for sure. I think Arlo Emery Dean is nice also.
I think some people would find the double-A sibset too cutesy. I don't mind it personally.

All the best with naming your little guy!

I like Arlo better than Harvey, and I think it sounds better with the middle names. Aida and Arlo is cute without being cutesy, I think.

these are my thoughts too.

I think of Arlo and Janis, the comic strip (totally a good thing - my husband emails me Arlo and Janis strips that reflect our family).

Arlo. Not a fan of Harvey at all.

I'm usually NOT a fan of alliteration in sib-sets, but I think Arlo and Aida sound very different. Part of me thinks Harvey and Aida looks better together, but I like Arlo more than Harvey... I think Arlo Emery Dean sounds better than Harvey Emery Dean though.

Maybe once the little one is here you can judge whether or not it feels "weird" calling him Harvey?

Aida and Arlo are too matchy for me, I personally wouldn't do it. Plus, I don't like the name Arlo much anyway; I don't care for Harvey either, but I still like it more than Arlo.

I keep thinking it's supposed to be Marlow or Harlow.

I love Harvey and Arlo is ok, nms, not masculine enough for me. I think Harvey sounds better because I don't like matchy unless you're going for matchy (my kids are both C's and I had good reason, but I wish I could have another to make it not so matchy, lol).

Hm...well...
Arlo Emery Dean > Harvey Emery Dean BUT Harvey > Arlo

I think Aida and Arlo sound nice together. Two names with the same first initial isn't too bad, but if you have a third child, is it going to look weird having one that doesn't start with an A or will you feel pressured to make it match the others? In my opinion, three names that start the same is too matchy. Aida and Harvey sound just as nice together and there are no initial issues. I guess that means I like Harvey the best.

Congratulations!! :)
I actually much prefer Harvey. I think Aida has a lovely retro quality that matches Harvey so perfectly. Like retro with style, but still uncommon and fresh sounding. Ditto with Dean, love it as a middle name!

Arlo is nice, although a little too trendy for my taste. (That celebrity blogger and that 6th Sense actress just named their babies Arlo this month.) Plus, Arlo and Aida both start with the same letter.
I still think Arlo is a nice, legit name. I just like Harvey better.

It's weird until he's a few months old, you get used to it. lol I think Arlo would be weirder than Harvey, personally. Probably because I have never heard the name before now.

Arlo >>>>>> Harvey. And I think Arlo and Aida sound much better than Harvey and Aida.

I'm actually not a fan of either really, I just wanted to comment to say that I think Aida Samantha Jane is absolutely lovely! If I had to pick what sounds nicer with Aida I'd probably go with Arlo. While it does have the alliteration, I think both are sufficiently different in sound, so they pair well.

I'm surprised no one else besides me is reminded of Arlo Guthrie.

For some reason, Emery Dean Harvey or Emery Dean _______ sound good to me now.

Hmm I feel torn on this one. I like the sound of Arlo Emery better, but I think Harvey goes better with Aida. All in all, Harvey is better than Arlo imo.

I prefer Arlo to Harvey. I also think that Arlo Emery Dean has a nicer flow than Harvey Emery Dean. However, I think Aida and Arlo are too similar for a sibset.

Arlo is fantastic!

(and I totally understand what you mean- all of my babies have had in-utero names that end up not being anything even close to their baby names)
