[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/-----citylight/ posting in [community profile] babynames
Baby daddy was inspired by one of my online friend's daughter's name (lol that was a mouthful!). He is usually not interested in names at all, but for some reason, he loves Veda. He is also open to other names that sound similar. We thought looking at the meanings on the names would help us choose, but they are actually all quite beautiful.

So what are your thoughts, and which do you prefer;
Vada - not sure of meaning, but it does remind me of My Girl(prn Vay-duh)
Veda - means "wisdom & knowledge" (prn Vee-da)
Vega - means "a falling star" (prn Vee-ga)
Vida - means "the beloved one" (prn Vee-da..i think)
Vita - means "life" (prn Vee-ta)

Her middle name will be something fun & spunky, like Plum, Honey, Bliss etc... Idea's for combo's would be great too?!

Also, let me know if I'm off on the pronunciations. I'm not entirely sure of them.

Our boy's choice was August Deary (nn Gus)

Thank you!

Vida(Vee-da) used to be on our short list - it means "life" in Spanish. I still really like it, but there are other names I like more, which is the only reason it has fallen off of my list. :)

I thought Veda was vay-duh and Vega was vay-guh and Vita I would say with a soft t like a d almost.

Vega's my favorite. The others I'm kinda meh about. But Vega really is BEAUTIFUL. The only combo that came to mind was Vega Celeste.

Oo I have to second this. That's a great combo. Celeste is on my list though so maybe I'm biased :)

(But I pronounce Vega more like.. VEH-ga, not with the OP's pronounciation)

veda is pronounced veh-duh (american english will pronounce it vay-duh, even though it's not the "proper" pronunciation from the language of origin) it's from the sanskrit and is the name of the hindu holy books.

vida is spanish for life and pronounced vee-duh; the beloved one would be more like amada.

I babysit for a little girl named Vela, and I think it's really pretty. It's Hindu in origin, meaning "Shore or coast" and is pronounced "Vay-lah".

wanted to add, a couple other sources say the name means "Time" instead.

Just wanted to add that I love all of them and would have a hard time picking which to go with :)

I like the way Vada sounds, but I personally would also pronounce Veda Vay-deh. So my 1st choice is Veda and my 2nd is Vega, but Vega reminds me a bit too much of Vegas.

I love Veda Plum.

I also like Veda Linnea, Veda Daphne, Veda Dagny, Veda Dove, Veda Juniper, and Veda Atlas for quirkier middle names. Vega Io is neat, but would probably be a little too cosmic. ;)

I like Vita and Vida. Have you considered Evita at all?

Haha yeah Evita was the name of the movie.

I prefer Veda (pronounced Vay-duh). I actually know a Veda (male) pronounced Vay-duh. I like it on a girl, not a boy.

Vega or Vada are my favorites of your list. I also like Vesper a lot, and it goes nicely with that list, thought I'd toss that out. Vera, Vespa, Viva, Via, Vivi, Vivian/Viviana/Vivienne, Vivia, Virtue, Vrai, Viveca, Valley, Vanja, Vala, Villa, Verity, Viola, or Valeria/Valerie are all really pretty too.

I love August Deary!! And your girl middle name options. Such fun taste you guys have! :)
