Nicknames

So, again, not having kids quite yet, but my boyfriend and I decided we really like Dimitri. I really like nicknames, but the only thing I can think of is "Dimi" which is SUPER adorable, but i would only want used by family. The reason? Kids are cruel and I can just hear it now.
The vocabulary-enhanced children: "Dimi is DIM! Dimi is DIM! hahahaha!"
The not-so vocabulary-enhanced children: "Dimi is a dumby! Dimi is a dumby! hahahaha"
All in a sing-songy voice of course!

So, IS there a nickname for Dimitri? I know he could always go by his middle name, or a nickname of his middle name, but there is a possibility that he won't have one. My BF doesn't have a middle name and doesn't see the significance. "If we come up with a great nickname, awesome, if not, who cares?"

on a sidenote: feel free to suggest middle names.. last name would start with a T if that helps lol

ETA: haha, what's wrong with my spelling today? i didn't even notice i added a Y instead of an i.

This is probably not the type of thing you're looking for, but there was an NHL hockey player in my city years ago named Dmitri, and his nickname was Tree. I thought it was great :)
