Date: 2006-07-28 12:04 pm (UTC)I can't get past the 'daffy' thing. I get a sort of Luna Lovegood image in my mind, a little wacky and weird. Sorry!
Elsa...
This one sounds regal to me, but I also associate it with a particular time period. Well, Elsie was in the top 100 from 1880-1920, so maybe that is what I am thinking of. You would think this would make this name ripe for a comeback, especially with people latching on to Ella and Emma and so forth, but so far, no. I am beginning to think that this is precisely the sort of name you want to pick if you want its freshness to have any kind of longevity, so I do see this as a contender.
Kaia...
This one I think would fit in with all of the other K names that are so popular right now, but would also stand out a bit because it doesn't have that overexposed long AY sound. Do you think it fits in *too* much for your taste? I voted for this one, but only after struggling over this vs. Elsa; in retrospect I think Elsa might hold up better in the long run, although I do still like this one a lot.
Callista...
I ended up not choosing Callista because in my mind it's still associated with the one actress; while she's cute, I don't admire her enough to want people to think about her when they meet my child. Disregarding the actress for a moment, I have to admit that I find it a little showy - it kind of says "ooh, look at me everybody!"
Tabitha...
Tabitha is very "Bewitched," and the 'th' sound isn't a favorite of mine.

Date: 2006-07-28 04:48 pm (UTC)Daphne - that's cool.
Elsa - I worry this will catch on and become more popular than I'd like. I think I mainly like it for the feline association.
Kaia - yes, I think a bit too K-name-trendy for me, but I can't help but like it anyway. I makes me think of the ocean in Hawaii, due to time I've spend there and everything being called something-Kai or Kai-of-the... And it's the only name I have a combo I adore. Kaia Delphine. Also it's my "safe" name, the one I know most people would approve of when they saw it. But the way I shy from popularity... honestly, that it has won this poll is enough for me to think, "ok, so I won't use *that* one." I'm so stubborn!
Callista - Maybe it's that I didn't actually watch that show, but I'm at a point where Callista Flockhart is not what I associate with the name. It's too bad she still spoils it for others. Still, I think her influence will continue to fade and would be meaningless with an actual baby/child carrying the name. I keep this on my short list. A little showy? Yeah, I can see that. It offers up the humble nn Callie though. I don't know... this is probably the newest one to my list. I'm not clear on my own feelings yet.
Tabitha - Ahhhh... 'th' is very much a favorite of mine! And I like both the cat and cute-girl-from-Bewitched associations. But I'm starting to think this would be an unlikely choice. It's probably the #5 from this list for me.

Date: 2006-07-28 02:42 pm (UTC)Callista is my favorite of those, closely followed by Daphne. I'm all about Greek names.
Kaia is actually an amazing name, if pronounced "kay-uh" i dont like "kie-uh" at all
Tabitha just doesnt work for me.

Date: 2006-07-28 08:38 pm (UTC)Elsa is pretty, but I've got two great-grandmothers named that and it just always reminds me of them. I've only seen pictures of them when they were old so it's wrinkles that pop into my head!
