Apr. 2nd, 2011 10:42 amWhat are your favourite international names / names from around the world that maybe aren't so comon in the western society?
(Appologies, I'm not entirely sure of the PC way to phrase the question, lol)

Date: 2011-04-02 05:29 am (UTC)That's pretty much the only one I like... although someone above mentioned Liesl, I do like that one because of the Sound of Music. I suppose I do like Gretl a little too.

Date: 2011-04-02 06:48 am (UTC)Yero (boy's name- West African)
lots of Arabic names: Amar (boy), Noor, Safia (my sister!), Amina, Suraya
also Anais and many French names.
I like Italian names: Lorenzo (Renzo), Marco, Rafaella.
I also like Noa for a girl (Hebrew, popular in Israel apparently)
My name's Zahra, and I was raised in an Arabic/French-speaking environment to a West African father and English mother, so maybe the multicultural names appeal. That said, I think the lines between East/West are blurring more and more and all of the above names could be found in the UK at least... and probably in the U.S. So I don't think there is such a thing as a 'Western society' name really.
