[identity profile] sayfray.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Today I received a fax from a receptionist named Girlie-Ray. I think it's different, and I don't really like it.  I believe it's her real name and not a nickname as these fax forms are company documents so the names are usually listed as:

John 'Johnny' Doe
Jane 'Jan' Doe

Only if they go by a nickname though, otherwise they just type out their first and last names.

Update on Pleiades, she goes by the nickname 'Ple'.  I don't know if it's pronounced Plee or Play, but it's interesting to know she goes by a nickname.

WDYT?

Girlie-Ray is awful. Very hillbilly-ish.

I'm not sure what to think of Pleiades. I suppose I'd rather someone be given a name of one of the pleiades, but using the collective group as a name is kind of interesting. They have a special significance to me, so I'm also more inclined to like it. Ple pronounced PLEE is kind of cute. I can't really come up with any better nn to use.

Girlie-Ray sounds like she might be really old.... I had a great-aunt named Birdie, it seems like a similar sort of name to me.

Girlie is a fairly popular name in the Philippines...mind you, that doesn't mean its a good idea lol.

A woman in one of my class has a grandmother named Girlie, she was from Denmark.
