(no subject)

The name Beckett (for a boy) has been growing on me lately. If you had to say what kind of name it is, what would you call it? Or, to put it another way, what sorts of names would you see as using a similar naming style? Feel free to turn this post into a mini-game of sibsets if you want.

All I can think of is the tv show Castle.

It's a great show. Beckett is what they call the main female detective's character, it's her last name.

that was my first thought too

Beckett sounds too hillbilly for my liking. :S

Yeah - doesn't sound hillbilly to me at all. It sounds very trendy to me.

Lol, I don't know WHY it sounds hilllbilly to me, but it just does. Isn't that interesting how names can be so different to people??

My first association is Samuel Beckett, the playwright, so not at all hillbilly!

I don't know what kind of a name I'd call it, but I really like it.

I think of Beckett as a "new classic." It's a real name with a long history but it has only very rarely been used as a first name. For a sibset, I'd pair it with other new classic names or some old-fashioned traditional (but not often used) names.

Sibset: Clara, Emory, Avery, Oscar, Alice, Ruby, Ellis, Moira, Fletcher, Alec.

Beckett is a surname name to me, like Jamison or Porter.

I like the name and associate it with Samuel Beckett. Unfortunaltey, I go by Becky, so it's too close to that for me to consider using it.

I've always loved the name Bennett. But we know someone with that last name, so its out for us. I love the way it sounds, and that it has a Pride and Prejudice reference. :)

I would put it in one of two categories:

Surnames as a first name:
~Adair
~Bishop
~Darwin
~Anything ending in "son"

Literary names:
~Soren
~Albert
~Samuel
~Anything else associated with that sort of philosophical writing.

I would classify it as a trendy surname-as-first-name. I'm not sure if it's one that will become common as a first name or if it's going to sound extremely dated 20 years from now because it will clearly be from this surname-obsessed time period. I guess only time will tell!
