[identity profile] rachie-01.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
I just want your opinions/suggestions on a few things please. As a little bit of background my long term boyfriend's and (most likely, I hope) eventual husband's surname is Rebelo. The trouble is I find names I like don't really go that well. Also, we don't agree well on girl names. I just don't really seem to like them very much.

So first question, have you ever dismissed a name you liked because of the surname it was going to be paired with? I'll tell you next some of the names I like, but I'm wondering if I should find ones that flow better with Rebelo or just go with what I like. What did you do/what would you do?

Second, we can both agree that we like Oliver and Rory for boy names. I remember posting about this a long time ago and I think some people may have thought Rory Rebelo was bit of a tongue twister. He apparently also likes Dustin (which I don't). I like names like Thomas, Milo, William, Matthew and Felix. He says Milo and Thomas are "ok" but that "Felix" is a cat, hah. Milo Rebelo? Too much "o"?

Now for girls names we can hardly agree on one at all. I like Lily, it's my Nan's nickname and I'd like to remember/honour her by giving our future child that name since I love her so much. I think he likes it too, but other than that there is nothing. I quite like girls names that begin with N, like Norah, Nola/Nula/Nulua, Nella... but I'm not sure those really go well with Rebelo, plus I don't think he likes those. I do quite like Jessica and Amelia but I don't know if I like them enough to name someone it. He likes Olivia which I do too, Chelsea (which I don't) and Mallory (which I am beginning to like).

So, second question, do you have any suggestions for names we might like?

Last question, are you put off by meanings of names? I looked up Mallory and it means unlucky. It makes me want to use that name less even though I know the meaning doesn't mean much at all as far as "well, she'll be unlucky for life!" goes.

Thanks in advance!

Before I changed my name, it was Malory. I always liked the meaning... it was like a built-in joke. If I tripped or dropped something, I would always crack my friends up by yelling "CURSE YOU, MOTHER!"

It's not all bad.
