I am loving the name Hanna/Hannah lately. I prefer it spelled Hanna with no H on the end because for some reason the Hannah makes me think of Miley Cyrus. but my mom said it looks incomplete. I like Hanna Maxine. Any thought?

Also, when you hear Riley do you think girl or boy? I love it for a boy but not so much for a girl.

Oh and I wanted to mention a friend of mine is having her 3rd baby girl, Memphis Kay.
She will join big sisters Madaly and Monroe.

When I hear Riley I think of a girl, but only because it's my (female) cousin's name :)

Your friend and I have different tastes in names... when I first read Madaly my brain wanted to read "malady" for some reason. Monroe's kind of neat, though - it reminds me of James Monroe so I'd try to place it on a boy, but it could be more unisex than my mind's wanting to give it credit for :)

Hanna makes me think of Hanna Andersson, but that's not such a bad thing.
I don't think kids born today will know or care about Hannah Montana when they're Tweens. Tweens today don't know about Clarissa Explains it all or Alex Mack, after all.

I've seen Hannah spelled both ways. I like it better with the "h".
I think of a boy when I hear Riley because that is my son's name but all the other Riley's I hear about are girls. I think it's more of a girl's name now.

I think Riley sounds more like a boy's name, but is also pretty gender neutral, it wouldn't surprise me to see it on either.

Your friend's kid's names are a bit odd, and I've always hated going matching, like all M's, but overall, it's a nice sibset, they go well together:)

I used to like the name a lot, but less so now. I do like Hannah Maxine.

Riley is a name I don't like on either sex, but mostly because it's an amalgamation of my and my husband's names (RYan and lesLIE) and I know if we name a kid that will be all people can think of. I guess if I had had to pick, I'd say I like it better on boys.

I think I told you this once before, but I had a friend back in kindergarten named Leslie and I've always liked the name since then.

I prefer Hanna to Hannah. My sister has a friend from Finland named Hanna (although it's properly pronounced "hah-nah" in her case), and I love it. I think Hanna Maxine is really pretty. :)

Riley makes me think more of a girl, as that's where I've heard it more, especially with that spelling. I think Riley should be a boy's name and I prefer it spelled Reilly.

Maxine was my great grandma's name and she had tons of the maxine cartoon stuff lol

Well, a nice family connection always improves a name for me. If you like it, use it. :)

I know a couple of girls named Hanna and their names are pronounced the German way - Hah-nuh. If you want a as in apple, I think you need to leave the h on the end.

Maxine is nms but they sound ok together.

Riley is both to me because I know one of each (both adults). I also know a dog Riley and I think it fits him best (not my favorite name!)

Memphis and Monroe are boy's names, IMO. Madaly is horrible.

I love the name Maxine, partly because I had a great Aunt Maxine who was pretty badass. Then we named our cat Maxine, after my aunt, and she is a badass cat. So, I think of a badass chick when I think of Maxine.

I see Riley on a boy, just because I only know boy Rileys. But I wouldn't be surprised to see it on a girl. But, I liken it to names like Taylor. Too trendy.

I have a soft spot for Monroe. Not digging the other names though.

Too bad there wasn't a way of making our brains not associate names with anything. (Just using the name you posted as an example, not saying this is your case) I think it would be really sad if someone really loved the name Hannah, but went, "Nope, Hannah Montana is too popular." Or, to go away from your example, if someone said, "I'm in love of the name Dora, but I know if I use it, everyone will call her Dora the Explorer." I say this as someone who has word associations with a lot of names. I remember telling my mom I really would love to use the name Emma, but wouldn't want anyone to think I got the name from the Jane Austen book. (Though as an old roommate of my pointed out, the name makes her think of F.R.I.E.N.D.S, which kind of made me go "great" (sarcastically) because a) that means that a lot of people won't even think of Jane Austen even though that's where I got the name from, and which to me makes it more of a classic name and b) there is a pop culture reference, and while I like the show, I don't watch it very often, and would hate to be lumped in as one of those parents who names their children after popy stuff.)

The pairing of Memphis and Monroe together made me think of cities. Though that makes Madaly stick out to me.

Honestly, while on most gender neutral names I do lean one way or the other, when I hear the name "Riley" my mind just blanks. I don't know, maybe it's because I'm just not that used to hearing it that I have nothing to associate it with or something.

i don't care for the name in general, but i think i prefer hannah.

to me, riley is one of the few unisex names that truly sounds okay for a boy OR a girl. (i lean toward girl, only because i've met more girls with that name.)

Ha, I was just talking about the different spellings of Hanna/Hannah with my friend Hannah the other day. We agreed that we both prefer her spelling because it looks slightly incomplete without the second H. Also, in her words, "without the second H it's not a palindrome and palindromes are AWESOME" :)

I think Riley is more masculine, personally. Probably because it makes me think of the character Riley Finn from Buffy The Vampire Slayer. It's not a common name in the UK and I've never actually met a Riley, male or female.

Not crazy about your friend's naming style to be honest... I think Memphis is the best of the bunch and Madaly is the worst.

Oh, and I don't like Maxine much, sorry. Not sure why...perhaps it sounds a little dated.
