Hubby wants to name our son (due in May) - Bruno

Last name will be Rodriguez. Baby is joining big sister Aida (prn Ade-uh)

What do you think about the name? Any associations/connotations you can think of? Whats the first thing that comes to mind?

Well, I immediately thought of Bruno Mars, the singer/songwriter, and Bruno, Sacha Baron Cohen's character.

I also thought of Bruno in regards to Sacha Baron Cohen's character/movie. I dont really think its a great connection ;-/

Agreed. I immediately thought of Sacha's Bruno...with umlauts.

A friend of mine had a pit bull named Bruno - that's the first thing that comes to mind when i hear it.

I don't love it, but I don't hate it either. I actually think it kind of goes well with Aida.

My first thought when I hear the name is of a dog ... I just looked it up, and apparently this is because it was Cinderella's dog's name in the Disney movie.

Unfortunately, the first thing that came to my mind was Sascha Baron Cohen.

I think of a big, drooling St. Bernard.

Bruno Mars was the first thing that came to my mind, which is actually pretty decent, talent-wise. Then I thought of a dog. It's a very dog-like name.

I immediately think of a dog's name.

I think it's cute! And fits nicely with your daughter's name. I thought of the other associations as listed above, but all of those things are easily separated from a baby's name, in my opinion, and on hearing it I wouldn't automatically go, "you named your kid after ____?"

my thoughts exactly!

Yeah, I didn't think of a dog or the singer/songwriter...I just thought that it is a nice name and goes very well with your daughter's name.

Makes me think of the dog from Cinderella

I first thought about the Sasha Baron Cohen character, and what a terrible movie that was.
But I'm sure once your baby is in kindergarten, everyone will have forgotten about that, and it will be totally off the radar of his peers in his class.

I'm not so sure it's safe. Yes, the movie will definitely be out of style by the time the boy hits school, but I think if any of his peers ever discovered it, it would provide them with more than enough ammo to mock him forever.

It does make me think of dogs, but I dig it.

I really hate the way it sounds.
It makes me think of a dog or someone big (and maybe tough), but kind of stupid. =/

My husband also likes the name Bruno. We're not expecting right now, but we're trying to conceive. He wants to name a future son Bruno after his grandfather. I told him Bruno sounds like something I would name a huge dog.

We've since moved from that name and are considering it as a middle name.

I had a Bruno in my 4th grade class last year. Cute kid with a great smile. The name makes me think of a tough guy but this student wasn't.

(or maybe not on my list...then I'd have 3 sons with names from Cinderella! lol!)

I've always kind of liked it a bit, but only if you can get away with it culturally, which we couldn't.

By that I mean... not only your family background/surname doesn't sound too weird with it.. but also where you live and the associations it brings up with people around you.
