I posted and enjoyed this community for many months, then I got busy and trimmed down my LJ interaction, and now I am here with a baby-on-the-way. How strange!

We find out the sex on Valentine's Day. I am so looking forward to calling our little bell pepper (the current size and my favorite food of all time!) by his or her name.

I am Rosalie Margaret and my husband is Christopher (Chris) Richard (his father's name)

If baby D is a boy, he'll be Dominic Christopher. Christopher is sort of non-negotiable due to my husband's desire to continue the passing down dad's name tradition. I don't mind. I like Dom but my husband plans call him Nic, which I am also ok with.

If baby D is a girl, she'll be Susanna.

Some middle names we've considered and (possibly) nixed:
Rose: after me, which I am not a huge fan of. Also, Susanna means lily in Hebrew, but lily and rose are the same in Hebrew, so it's like naming her two words for lily or two words for rose, which I really don't like.
Joy: I love this but it seems so filler. The Marie of the 2000s, if you will. Another name on my top 10 list is Corinna, and I REALLY like Joy with that one much more.
Janine: I like this, mostly for the sentimental reason that it's my grandma's name. I don't love the lack of individual meaning (comes from John, etc).
Jane: I am a huge Jane Austen fan and would love nothing more than to honor her, but people always think it's so plain!
Louise: also my MIL's middle name
Elizabeth: a bit of a family name and one I love. This one helps me see that we sort of like long names.

I would love to hear some suggestions for Susanna. Any and all are welcome. :)

What about Margaret as a middle name? You didn't say whether you like your middle name, but I love it. I had never considered naming any future potential children after me, but I'm beginning to like the idea of my middle name for a daughter's middle name.

Of the ones you listed, I like Susanna Jane, Susanna Louise, and Susanna Elizabeth.

I don't mind Margaret but I don't think I want us to have the same middle name. What about Susanna Pearl (Margaret means Pearl)?

What about Susanna Rosaline or Susanna Rosalind? It's kind of another variant of Rosalie and Rose.

I don't like Rose names that some people say with a Roz sound at the beginning. It is nice to know that people don't think it's odd to use a variation on your own name, though!

I like Susanna Joy the best. I'm actually not crazy about Joy as a name, in general, but I think it sounds really good with Susanna. I also like Susanna Rose, Susanna Louise, Susanna Jane, and Susanna Pearl (from the comments).

I like the idea of naming for your grandmother, but I really don't like Janine. I think you could easily use Jane to honor both her and Austen. Or what's your grandmother's middle name?

Janine is my grandma's name, but I agree that Jane as a variation on Janine would honor her as well.

I used to HATE the name Jane, but since becoming a Jane Austen fan, I want to use it as a middle name. Jane Eyre being my favorite book also influences this.

I love the name Janine, with that spelling. I've heard of very few others who like the name.

Susanna Jane works IMO, but Susanna Janine is too many N's.

I really like Susanna Jane, and honestly I wouldn't worry about a middle name being "plain." I don't think it's ever going to matter. I wouldn't even shoot Jane down as a first name because, honestly, despite it's reputation I have never met anyone under 30 with that name.

I don't think Joy is the Marie of the 2000s. I don't like it and don't see it very much. I don't much like abstract noun names. I do like Temperance though. :)

We've considered Susanna too! We like Lily as well and were thinking of using either as a nod to my MIL Susan. That's cool that lily and rose are the same word in Hebrew-- my husband and I have thought of using rose somehow in a future daughter's name (our daughter's second first name was Rose).

Elizabeth and Jane are on my list. :)

Ooooh, I love love love your taste in names! Dominic and Susanna are fantastic!!

On the middle names: Joy doesn't really strike me as 'the new Marie,' that's more Rose and Grace. My favorite based purely on sound is Susanna Jane. I think it's lovely and old-fashioned but spunky. Susanna Elizabeth is nice, but maybe too long.

Since the baby is "bell pepper," what about Susanna Belle? Or even Susanna Pepper, lol.

From your list, I think Susanna Jane is best (Jane is not plain, I think the phrase "plain Jane" sprung into existence merely because the words rhyme).

Next is Susanna Louise, and third is Susanna Elizabeth.
