[identity profile] shyspy.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
Hello! We are expecting baby #2, in early April, and I find myself struggling with a name. We are pretty sure it's a boy! I have an unusual name myself (Cheyanna, pronounced SHY-anna) and have always LOVED it, even if the spelling is misleading. Husband has a very normal name but is open to unusual names within reason.

Our 2.5 year old daughter's name is Zoƫ Michelle Margaret. Last name S.

Our very favorite name so far is Valen. (Pronounced VAY-len) This part is pretty much non-negotiable, unless I find something mindblowing in the next three months. The name means Strong and healthy in most name meaning websites I've searched. What I'm stuck on is a suitable middle name.

My hubby likes Valen Blue.

I'm not 100% sold on using a colour as a name, and have a list of other options. I don't want every aspect of his name to be strange and out-there, in case some day he decides he wants something a bit more conventional on his resume or whatever.

Other favorites include:
Leo
Malachi
Jamis
Jorel
Quinn
Slade

I'm also totally open to any other suggestions for a second name for Valen you might have!
:)

PS- In case the ultrasound was wrong and we have a girl, our favorite name is Lila or Vega Jane.

I think Valen Blue flows very nicely.

Malachi and Jamis also sound nice.

Lila is gorgeous, and would go well with Zoe!

I rather like Valen Blue, to be honest. I think Valen Malachi would be pretty cool too though.

Vega Jane is awesome, btw. I really want a sister set of Zoe and Vega to happen. It's fantastic.

I may be crazy, but I had never heard of Valen as a first name before, so I did a bit of digging to see if I could find it, and to see if the meaning 'strong and healthy' was in any way accurate. At first I couldn't find much, until I came across a site which listed it as a variant of Valentine. I searched Valentine on behindthename.com and came up with: from Latin valens "strong, vigourous, healthy". Maybe you already saw that, but I thought it was worth posting!

I'm kind of with you on giving him a more 'normal' middle name, though. I think Valen Blue is a bit much. I'm not saying you should give him a super common middle name like Joseph or James, but I would personally go with something that most people would recognize as a male first name.

Cheyanna isn't a misleading spelling to me because of Cheyenne :).

You definitely have some interesting names picked out, most of which I've never heard before. I'm intrigued :).

Is Vega pronounced Vay-guh, Vee-guh or Vee-jah?

That makes sense. Actually, not long after I commented, I thought of the star (Vega). But at the time I asked, my brained went to my inability to pronounce the word "vegan".
