I can't believe I'm asking this but,...
My husband and I are expecting our second child, a boy, due May 1st. Our daughter is 15 months old. Her name is Aida (just becuase we liked it) Samantha Jane (after me, my real name is Samantha Anita Maria, but my Mom would always call me Samantha Jane so the Jane part is kind of a tribute to my Mom as well.).
So, in the spirit of matching names, we were set on naming this little guy Harvey Emery Dean. Harvey just because we like it, Emery after my husband and Dean is my Dad's middle name.
However, pretty much since the day I met my hubby he has talked about naming his son after him. Which I'm pretty okay with in the sense that I like the name Emery, it fits all my criteria for name-liking and sounds good with my daughters name (Aida). The part that I don't like is the idea of calling him Big Emery/Little Emery or something to that effect his entire life.. I definitely don't want him to have the exact same name as his Dad, but using the first name the same would be fine, if I can swing it. My brother-in-law's name is Emanuel Jacob and he goes by E.j. So naming my son Emery Jr. and calling him a cute nickname like E.j. won't work because that's already in use in the immediate family.
Can you help me come up with something where we could name my son Emery but also have a nickname for him? I thought Emery Jr. could be M.j. but I think thats kinda pushing it, if you know what I mean? I don't know.
The only requirements in this "game" are that the first name needs to be Emery, and he needs to have two middle names. Our last name is Rodriguez so if that can play into the nickname somehow that would be fine.
Thanks! I hope this made sense,.. lol :)

Emery leads to nn Rye, which makes me think of "The Catcher in the Rye", and for some reason I like the name "Catcher", so I would so name him Emery and call him Catcher :)
Keep in mind I've never read The Catcher in the Rye so I have no idea what it's about or if it should have even came to mind when considering baby name options, but that's still how my mind ran around it ;)

Either way... nicknames evolve with time! Picking a nickname from birth is a bit premature ;)

What is your husband's middle name?

Does your husband always go by Emery?
Also - I know several families where the father and son have the same first name and different middle names, so they aren't technically Jr's or II's. I don't think they use different nick names - one is just Dad, and the other is Name. :)

I like the original name you picked with Emery as a middle name. I mean if Emery sounds good with your daughters name and you plan to call him a nickname, I dont really see the point I guess, because most like a name like MJ or EJ or just whatever, isn't really going to go with Aida.

Have you thought of just changing the type of name and still keeping the "Em" sound? Such as: (the obvious) Emmerson, Emmett, or Emmerich (this was actually my grandfathers given name until he moved to Canada from Germany when he was 10 and changed it to James).
Other than that, I'm not sure.
BUT PS - I love your daughters name!

I have nothing of real importance to add, because I suck at stuff like this lol. But there's always completely unrelated nicknames, too. My mom has called me Sal every since I was little... but my name is Julianne Sarah. (Though I think I read somewhere that Sally was a nickname for Sarah? I'm not sure? Either way, I don't think that's where she got it from -- she just started calling me it randomly).

My husband is Albert Edward III. His father goes by Al/Albert and my husband goes by Ted (a nickname for Edward). If we have an Albert Edward IV (we're not sure yet; neither of us are a huge fan of the name, but I've told him if he decides he really wants to use it I will) we'll likely call him Edward, perhaps Ward for short.
I'm not a huge fan of initial names, but one of our top choices is Patrick Jeremiah and I am mighty tempted to use PJ as a nickname (more at home/just a pet name of mine thing, not actively encouraging people to call him that).
Emery Dean-- Eddie?
