Speaking of name books, I was wondering if anyone has a copy of the New Book of Magical Names. I'm particularly wondering if it's worth having if you already have a copy of The Complete Book of Magical Names by the same author. I'm trying to decide if I should order it, but don't want to waste my money if it's basically the same thing with a new cover.

I have the latter and love it, it's a great name book. There's a lot of bizarre stuff good for laughs, but a lot of good stuff too, especially if you tend to like nature names of other more unusual names. Plus there's a lot of interesting text in it too about. It's a lot more than just lists and meanings. It's a name book you can actually read cover to cover, if you are so inclined.

If you don't have either (and aren't offended by non-Christian thought as the book is very pagan in philosophy) it's a good book to have.

I don't own either of these books, but I should. God knows I have a thing for nature names, lol! :)

That's hard to say. It's a large book with plenty of "normal" names in it. Like Sky, Summer, Ariadne, Astrid, Linnea, Raven, Aspen, Rowan, Athena, Felix, Dexter, Cedric.... etc. All names on my list that appear in the book. There are sections on God/Goddess names. Sections on Hawaiian/Finnish/Greek/Irish names. A section on place/geography names. Lists of names from books (King Arthur stories, Shakespeare, many different fantasy/sci-fi works). Basically it's just a naming book drawing from any source other than the Judeo-Christian background, as there are so many other name books on that topic.

Well there is plenty of out-there stuff too. But that's kind of what makes the book fun - digging through it all to find the good stuff. It's just really different than other naming books. Also, it's not written for baby names specifically, but for magical names, pet names, RPG names etc. So it's ok when it goes a little bizarre.

i freaking LOVE Ariadne, but i dislike the spider connection. still, it's so beautiful....maybe it can go on my list anyway :-)
