Im having a baby girl in 7.5 weeks and we are still undecided on a name. I thought we had settled on Molly, but now we are worried that name is growing too popular. Next on our list is Parker, but we have no middle name ideas for it.

What do you guys think of Parker for a girl, and can you suggest some middle names for it?

If it makes you feel any better about the popularity of "Molly" I've never met a kid or an adult named Molly!

I'm not a fan of Parker for a girl, though.

This completely.

Really any name that ends in -er is very masculine to me (Parker, Cooper, Cutler, Ryder, Tyler, Carter, Carver, etc).

Sorry--I realloy dislike the name Parker, especially on a girl. Molly may be popular, but (as we've discussed on this board before) that doesn't mean what it once did. These days the #1 name in the country is given to fewer children than #15 was back in the day. [statistics approximated] So I'm definitely cheering for Molly, which is a cute, sweet, pretty name, while Parker is just bland and overly-preppy.

I think Molly is cute, and I've never met a human Molly of any age.

If you're using Parker, I think you could use Molly as a middle name.

Parker is very masculine to me. Molly is lovely.

I love Parker!

Also, sure, Parker sounds masculine, but I don't think that's a reason not to choose it for your daughter. I think it's lovely and unique, but then I'm not a fan of Molly, so.

Molly and Parker bring up two completely different images for me. Molly makes me think of a little girl in frills (I've never met a Molly in real life, btw) and Parker instantly makes me think of a [dark-haired] little boy... =/

Personally, I'd probably just stick with Molly.

I much, much much prefer Molly to Parker. I think Parker is a bit masculine, and I'm really no kind of crazy about it on a boy. I think it's generally not a great name. Sorry to be so critical.

Molly has consistently been around #100 on the SSA Baby Name list for the past 15 years or so.

I was born in 1988, and that year my name was #16. Do you know how many other people my age named Melissa I've met in my entire life? 5. In my graduating class of 800-ish, there were only 2 other Melissas, and there were 5 Lauren Elizabeths.

So... don't fret so much about the popularity of Molly. Only 0.1735% of the babies born last year were named Molly.

If you couldn't tell from that, I really don't like Parker. Not even for a boy, and less on a girl.

I know one Molly, and she's around 20 or 21. I didn't think the name was making a comeback?

I think Molly is a nice name. I think Parker is a decent name for a boy, but a crappy name for a girl.

I feel like I'm jumping on the bandwagon here, but I much prefer Parker on a boy.

Popularity charts are pretty misleading. And while Molly is kind of consistently popular, I don't hear it much. I've only met one, I think, and she was about my age (and I'm almost 23).

I would definitely go with Molly over Parker. Parker screams "preppy jock" to me, not cute little girl. Plus, Parker is popular too - for a boy. There were more boys named Parker than girls named Molly last year, actually.

I really don't like "Parker" on a boy or girl but especially not a girl.
Molly is a wonderful name. And I have never met one in real life. Ever.

according to the social security site (assuming you're in the US) Molly and Parker are about as popular as each other (ranking 92 and 96 in 2009--the 2010 stats aren't out yet) so I wouldn't base it on that. Molly is so much prettier, IMO. I'd stick with it over Parker!

Molly is GORGEOUS, and I know only one girl with that name who is about 9 and an absolutely wonderful child.

Parker is totally ick to me, boy or girl. Molly will age much more nicely.

I like Molly and Parker - not my style, but I like them. I feel like I know more little Parker babies right now than Molly's. I actually only know two - one in her 30s and thats probably seven now...oh, and a Mahlie lol. Of the two, I think Molly is cuter. If you go with Parker, I'd match it with a girly middle name. Depending on the last name, I think Molly Parker or Parker Molly work. As an initial geek, a middle name starting with J would let her be a PJ if she wanted lol.

Parker Jane
Parker Jasmine
Parker Jade
Parker Jessamine
Parker Jacqueline
Parker Josephine
Parker Jocelin

I don't like Parker as a first name at all (because it's a last name!) and even less for a girl. Molly is a much better name and it's not that popular.

According to Behind the Name, Molly was only the 92nd most popular name in the United States in 2009. Granted, unless you send her to a very small school, there will probably be another Molly in her school, but the odds of their being another Molly in her class are fairly low.

Parker is the 96th most common name for boys, so it's not much better if you're looking for individuality.

Parker seems more popular than Molly. Unless Molly is a new trend.

Penelope Parker is an aborable name. Penny for a nn of course.

Parker is a boy's name. Parker is the name Rosie O'Donnell chose for her son.
I met one Molly, she was in high school then. A chubby freckled girl. I think of Molly and Meagan from "My Little Pony". (I was born in 1980).

I knew a Parker McKenzie that taught art and had her own band back at my old private school when I was little.

But Molly isn't very common, and what's popular shouldn't sway your opinion anyway!
