The baby is now three weeks old and they've changed their mind about the spelling of the middle name (which most of you didn't like). The new spelling is Jaqualin.

better, worse, or just screwy in a different way?

my initial thought is that the new way is going to be harder for her to learn to spell, but it does look more feminine.

i don't think we can assume that different is wrong or ignorant. that seems unfair.

and perhaps because the mother is ukrainian, this spelling makes more sense to her side of the family. *shrug*

I understand/read some Ukrainian, and that is not possible. That spelling makes no sense in Ukrainian.

i wasn't saying that the spelling was ukrainian (or russian, which is her language). i was saying that in her family's limited understanding of english, this spelling might be phonetically more logical.

i agree. i wasnt inferring that anyone was wrong, and most certainly not ignorant! she asked what we thought and my thoughts were that it looks worse than jacklynn (even though i really didnt like that one) and that it looks like a misspelling of jacqueline. thats it. i have no judgment really on what people name their kids, as i am fully aware i have zero bearing on the outcome and also have absolutely nothing invested. if theyre happy with it, thats great, and all that matters. she asked for our opinions, and i chimed in. no harm done, imo.

thats a good point about her being ukrainian, i had forgotten that piece.
