I can get wanting a child named after you so badly that you alter the name to fit the other gender, but you need to realize that if you do that, you're giving up the chance to name any future children after yourself, regardless of gender.

Ugh - I used to work with a woman whose partner was called Brian and their children were Brian and Briana...and apparently he insisted on those names :-/
