wdyt of the name "elanor"?

i think it's my new favorite (finally usurping andromeda); as some reference, i'd always loved the name eleanor (and never took to the spelling "elinor"), and this spelling has some lovely tolkien ties: "sun star" in sindarin (elvish), a type of flower, and the name of sam's first daughter.

any ideas of combos?

I like Eleanor, but really only for the nn Nora. It kinda feels old to me, but if I met a baby named Eleanor I'd probably find it adorable. I don't like the spelling Elanor though.

It was the nickname of Nora that made me agree to name our daughter Eleanor. It's my husband's grandmother's name and he's very close to her and wanted to use it. At the time, I thought it was a little too old lady. Now I find that I like old lady names and now I actually might have just called her Eleanor. But then I really didn't want anyone calling her Ellie.

That's funny because here (UK) Eleanor is pretty popular, and its the name Nora that people find really old.

I like Eleanor but I'm not a fan of Elanor.

I LOVE Elanor. I especially love the Tolkien ties (well, I love anything with Tolkien ties lol).

If I saw the name with that spelling, I would think the parents of the child didn't know how to spell. I love Eleanor though.

I get that you like the tolkien ties, but I will never truly like another version of Eleanor other than the traditional. To me Elanor looks misspelled and awkward.

I love the Tolkien ties and would love to use this, but, like the rest of the posters say, it looks misspelled. Plus, your daughter would be constantly correcting people on how to spell her name correctly. I think you could use Eleanor and still maintain the Tolkien meanings for you.

Eleanor Elizabeth
Eleanor Amelia
Eleanor Isabel(le)
Eleanor Catherine
Eleanor Azriel
Eleanor Rebecka
Eleanor Merry
Eleanor Mirabella

While I prefer Eleanor, I think Elanor works just as fine.

The first middle name I thought of was Skye, but then I saw your username, haha!

Other suggestions:

Elanor Sophie
Elanor Lyra
Elanor Rosalie
Elanor Isobel/Isabel
Elanor Juliet
Elanor Miriam
Elanor Lydia
Elanor Christine
Elanor Selene
Elanor Faye
Elanor Cerise

I LOVE Elanor. I just love the sound and look of it, and also the Lord of the Rings connection (plus the fact that it's a Lord of the Rings name without being too ridiculous for an actual person). The only thing I would worry about would be that people would either misspell it, or think it was misspelled, as evidenced by the responses here. Due to that, I might only consider it as a middle name.

Not the OP, but I hope she doesn't mind that I'm responding...just looked up this name the other day! Apparently it's a variant of Araceli (Ah-rah-SE-lee) which is a Spanish name Araceli (http://www.behindthename.com/name/aracely). I must say I quite like it.

My daughter is Elanor Rose and we call her Ellie most of the time.

Also . . . We know how to spell.

I don't think I can get behind that spelling. Elinor, I love, but Elanor, no thank you.
