[identity profile] relevancedenied.livejournal.com posting in [community profile] babynames
i'm 20 weeks pregnant and the sonographer says it's maybe-probably a boy. trouble is, boy names are WAY harder for us than girl names. the only one that we both like more than a little is elias.

what do you think of when you hear it? associations, etc? tbh, the name only occurred to us because we watched clerks II recently and i jokingly suggested it to my husband- only to realize that we both really liked it.

any other suggestions?

That's really funny because after watching Clerks 2 I fell in love with that name! It would definitely be high up on a list of boys names if I were to have one :)

I used it, and I totally picked it because of clerks 2. and I still love it and the association.

My husband really likes the name but I'm not totally sold on it - I dont have any negative associations with the name & I do like it...but not 100% if that makes sense

We picked a girl name similar to that (actually I got the idea from the name Elias) and our girl name will be Ellia.

Boy names are really hard for me, too. I think because I already have a boy and his name is perfect to me so its hard to find one JUST as perfect!

It makes me think of Let the Right One In, which I love. I liked it before that anyway, though.

I don't have any associations with it (and apparently forgot about the Clerks 2 connection), but I like it. It gives me a good vibe.

The only Elias I ever met was a man who worked at a pet shelter. He was really awesome and kind of a friend to all living things. It's a good name, and not super common. I think if you and your husband like it that it's a good choice.

Now you just need a middle name. XD

I like Elias. He'll probably just get called Eli by most people, but I can't think of any common negative associations with the name, and it's not difficult to spell or pronounce.

You might try www.nymbler.com for suggestions. I don't have any of my own.

Elias has been my #3 boy name for as long as I can remember, after Gabriel and Julian. I would pair it with the middle name Andrew. I've never seen Clerks 2, fwiw.

I think it's a great name! Eli is the most obvious nn which I think is also great! I don't think it matters where the name comes from (especially since there are a ton of other places it could have come from) so long as you and your SO love it!

I like that name, too!
When we found out we were having a boy, we were so excited - then I would whisper to him that it would be easier if he had girl parts! :P (Joking of course). Because boy names are SO hard!
But after that agony, we've decided that our baby boy will be named Annon Xavier, we shared the name with our families a while back just as a possibility and they hated it - but it's our baby and we love the name for him, I think it suits him...already and I haven't even met him yet. But we'll be keeping the offical name TOP SECRET until he's born, that way no one will try and talk me out of it - it'll already be on the birth certificate :)

It seems to me that names that can be shortened to "Eli" are gaining in popularity very rapidly (at least where I live). It seems like I hear of a newborn "Elijah" or "Elias" at least once a week.
That said, I do really like Elias. It used to be near the top of our list if we ever have a boy, but it has recently been replaced.

It makes me think of Clerks 2, as that's the first time I ever heard the name. But I don't associate the name with the character, which is a very good thing :) I lovelovelove the name.

The only things that come to mind are Elias Bros. (http://www.bigboy.com/) and Patrik Elias (http://www.nhl.com/ice/player.htm?id=8460542#&navid=nhl-keymatch).
